Over these past 5 years we have gotten to know Chef Cary and the rest of the staff well and look forward every year see them and have dinner there. There are some excellent restaurants in Carmel, but in our opinion L Escargot tops the list. The food is excellent, the atmosphere is intimate and the service can't be matched. The presentation is absolutely beautiful — every dish is decorated with so much care, and all the little details make the food feel even more special and delicious.

“We had the most amazing time at a beautiful winery in Carmel Valley! We were staying at Carmel Valley Ranch and wanted to find a near by winery/vineyard that is kid friendly. Folktale is THE place! The service is beyond what we were expecting and the wines were amazing. Let me start off with Nick ,our server. He is the epitome of hospitality and so knowledgeable in Folktale’s wines selection. Started off with the Rose Brut which I thought was something you would have from Provence. Then enjoyed multiple of their reds including their Messenger wine. This is a wine I would highly suggest for someone who enjoys wine pairings with anything. Did not expect a Tuscan type wine like this. Well blended Sangiovese/Cab. Enjoyed their Pinot Noir Estate and The Hound as well. All in all this is great option for anyone visiting Carmel Valley and a must if you are staying at Carmel Valley Ranch. Thank you Folktale Winery and Vineyards for an enjoyable experience.“

“Felt right at home as soon as we walked into this place. Both the manager and the gentleman who helped us were wonderful. They expanded our horizons from our typical palette. Ended up leaving with a bottle of their sparkling rose which we normally don’t lean towards at all! It was so refreshing yet dry and definitely hit the spot during the warm day. The bar was spacious and the outdoor dining area had a nice cool breeze. Good ambience is key and this place definitely has it. We will be back when visiting the area again🍷“

“I went here. I was so glad we ended up here. I asked a man down the street where to go for breakfast, and this place was the recommendation. Gabrielle, the hostess, was so inviting and amazing, and our server Cathy was great. Food was off the charts good. Was it expensive? Don't ask that question. “Picked up food to go last year and it was really good. So happy that we found this place again! Ordered garlic parm and spicy fried chicken wing plates, lemongrass chicken and beef meatball pho. Also ordered strawberry and melon boba milk tea and Vietnamese coffee with egg cream. Food and drinks came out quickly. Customer service was great. It was so good that we ate and drank everything! We will definitely come here again when we’re in the area.“

“Akaoni is one of my favorite restaurants and serves the best sushi that I've had in California. We personally make trips to Carmel-by-the-sea just to eat here, so if you are a sushi aficionado, I genuinely think you should try squeezing in a visit. One time, I ate here prior to a big interview, and my stress just melted away.

Yes, you need a reservation to eat here because they have a limited amount of space and work to make the atmosphere peaceful and calming. I think that some folks misinterpret their directness as rudeness, but I personally feel that they are polite and provide excellent service. Our experiences here have been positive and memorable.“

“We almost gave up as street parking was so hard to find. I found out later that there was public parking available a few blocks away. Our party of six was seated soon after the party of 4 who came before us. Pedro our server, was friendly. We ordered Farmer's Market Vegetable Curry, Calibonara, Singapore Chili Prawns, Salmon Tropikal, Kare Kare, House-Made Crispy Rolls (lumpia shanghai), Island Kawali appetizer, not my fave as the meat was bland and dry, with a side order of steamed rice. The steamed rice wasn’t what we were expecting and used to, it was fried, with a spicy kick, and the rice was slightly al dente. The hits were the Calibonara, Singapore Chili prawns, and Salmon Tropikal. The Calibonara had bacon, my son liked this dish. The Singapore chili prawns were a hit all around, the prawns were plump, juicy, and cooked perfectly. My mom liked that the salmon was cooked to her liking- grilled perfectly. My brother liked his order of Farmer’s market veggie curry with the sliced fried aubergine, and stewed carrots, broccoli, and celery. I was disappointed with the lumpia Shanghai which were mostly crispy wrappers. Most other dishes had interesting concepts of Filipino fusion. Edwin was there making his rounds, and soon visited our table to check on us. He had us try the lechon which was a secret item and not on the menu. We opted for the kare-kare to be boxed and taken to go as we were pressed for time. There was a mistake in our order, but the items were not included in our bill. Street parking was free for 2 hours max. Only one restroom and it’s gender neutral.“

“The place is small but friendly. I had the crab encrusted halibut. I didn't care for it. I love a good fish meal, bilut it had a beef stew type sauce with potatoes that didn't seen to match well. The crab part didn't taste like crab. The dish could have been a lot better with a cream sauce. It's a cute set up but I don't think I would be back.“
