Both specials we chose also included a rich miso soup. The tempura batter was perfection, crispy and light but not greasy. Everything was presented in a way that was pleasing to the eye. Used the self order kiosk which was super easy and got the King Boss roll a Salmon Coco drink and my friend got the Godzilla roll plus a Matcha Coco. Both rolls were packed with fish not just rice and filler and everything tasted so fresh you can tell they prep it right when you order. The space is cozy and clean. Staff was nice checked on us once without hovering at all. Already planning to go back after class.“

“I went here solo on a Thursday night. This is the absolute best sushi I ever had. Chef Otto is a sushi genius and the omakase experience proves. The highest quality fish I've had. Everything was on point. Sushi is very creative and not the nigiri you're used to. The experience is enhanced when you interact with Chef Otto. It was quiet at first but once you start chatting and getting to know Chef the dinner experience become even better. Make sure you ask him how he got into sushi and the story about Carlos Santana restaurant. It's only one turn of 8 total dinners so even though you may make reservations for 6:30 or 7, dinner only starts when everyone is there, I was able to get to know the other guests and I would encourage you to talk to your fellow dinners. It's about 2 hrs long and worth every penny. I plan on coming back every few months.“

The taste was so delicate and delicious. Full of flavor but nothing overwhelming the fish. I will definitely go next time i’m in Chicago. Price was very reasonable. Service was so attentive but not intrusive. We ordered uni and some extra pieces at the end. They were all very tasty as well.“

Big Bird Sushi Bar & Thai made this a grand slam when I went with 5 other people. I don’t want to get into the weeds with specifics, but I do one to point out one particular dish that everyone MUST try at this amazing restaurant: Penang Curry with Noodles. I’ve never seen this offering at another Thai restaurant, and with Penang being my favorite curry (followed second by green curry with roasted eggplant) this was the best Penang I’ve ever experienced. The most surprising part was the texture of the noodles. You just have to try them!!!“

The California roll and salad complete the meal perfectly. I also ordered the Truffle Yuzu Salmon, which had a beautiful balance of citrus and truffle flavor. “Had a really good meal at Ekiben. I ordered the chicken katsudon and onigiri, and both are worth returning for. The katsudon was a generous bowl of chicken, rice, and soft egg—filling enough that I ended up taking some home. It’s a good choice if you’re looking for a substantial meal rather than a quick snack.

The onigiri were particularly good. Made to order, with fresh rice and generous fillings, they felt like something worth visiting for in their own right. The portions are larger than you might expect, so ordering a few to try would make a satisfying meal on its own. Alongside the katsudon, I had more than enough food.

The visit was easy from start to finish. I got a table immediately, and my order arrived in about ten minutes or less. It’s a casual place that works well for a quick lunch or an unhurried meal, and the portions make it good value.

I’d recommend trying both the katsudon and the onigiri on a first visit. I’d happily order the same again, but there’s enough on the menu to tempt me into trying something different. Will be back for sure.“
