“This was an important dinner, my son who is 26, had surgery(had his tonsils removed) a couple days ago, and The recovery is described as one of the worst, and it feels like shards of glass in your throat.he has to eat soft food and he had Choices all over the Kansas City metro area. He chose Joe’s, Joe’s mac & cheese to be exact! We live on the Missouri side (Gladstone). So I decided to stop by this evening, and not only get a quart of mac & cheese for him, I grabbed dinner for myself (z-man w/ fries, ribs w/ red beans and rice, Mac and cheese) which I was reluctant to do, due to me having to drive 35 minutes home and I was worried that it was going to be Soggy and cold, Well, much to my surprise, the food was packed perfectly, my food was still hot, and my fries were still crispy! Thank you Joe’s in Leawood you did amazing! I will probably be back in the next couple of days to purchase more Joes mac & cheese! BTW this son of mine recommends Joes to everyone!! “Food is really good, I've ordered many times from them but my last order included an $8.25 fee for carry out supplies. They charge a percent of the entire bill. No where in the check out process do they tell you this. This seems excessive for 6 utensil packs and 5 takeout containers. Many other BBQ places with similar price points do not charge this fee. If you are going to charge extra fees be up front about it.“

“Found myself in Grandview working a service call on an extremely cold Saturday morning. After I got that furnace fixed I found this awesome spot for BBQ! Highly recommend making the time to stop in, ribs were perfect tender, pulled pork was delicious and not smothered in sauce, I love the beans again flavor of the ingredients not over powered by sauce. 💯“

“My cousins and I came to Kansas City to visit our aunt and cousins. We decided it was going to be a mini BBQ trip, so we ate at different BBQ restaurants each day. Jack Stacks was phenomenal as each appetizer, meat and side were some of the best we've ever had. We shared everything... onion rings, fried mushrooms, mac & cheese, pork burnt ends, beef burnt ends, sausage, baby back ribs, lamb ribs, brisket, cheesy corn bake, cole slaw, and hickory pit beans. Each dish built upon the prior one for an exceptional dining experience. Ameed took care of us an did a spectacular job. I highly recommend Jack Stacks as it never dissapoints.“

“If you’re looking for classic Kansas City barbecue with a slightly upscale atmosphere, Jack Stack on the Plaza is a great choice. The location right on the Plaza is fantastic, making it a super convenient spot to grab a meal while walking around the area.

What I Loved:

The Sides: Hands down, the sides are the real stars of the show here. The Cheesy Corn Bake is incredible, and the hickory pit beans are easily some of the best in town—rich, smoky, and packed with flavor.

Burnt Ends & Ribs: The burnt ends were cooked really well—tender, juicy, and coated in just the right amount of sauce without being drowned in it. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone good.

Ambiance & Service: Unlike a lot of traditional counter-serve joint BBQs, Jack Stack offers full sit-down service with a nice, welcoming vibe that works great for families, date nights, or business lunches. Service was friendly and prompt.

Why 4 Stars Instead of 5:

Pricing & Portions: Being in the Plaza, it’s definitely a bit pricier than your typical neighborhood BBQ joint, and the portion sizes—while decent—feel a little light relative to the price tag.

Wait Times: Because of the location, it gets extremely busy during peak hours. Even with reservations or joining the waitlist early, expect a crowd.

All in all, it’s a high-quality KC barbecue experience that delivers great flavor in a comfortable setting. Definitely worth a visit, especially if you save room for the cheesy corn and pit beans!“

“Chef J's BBQ was incredible! I was lucky enough to be able to order The Boss, therefore I got to try the Brisket and Jalapeno BBQ Sausage and both tasted fresh with the perfect amount of smoke. The ratio of fat and tender meat on the Brisket was perfect. My girlfriend and I showed up hungry and left with a full belly. The staff that work at Chef J's BBQ make you feel like your eating at home. 10 out of 10 experience!“

“I had low expectations for this joint as it was recommended to me by a co-worker with pretty bad taste. I tried it anyways and boy was I surprised. This was the best pulled pork I've had and I've lived in KC long enough to try most all of the BBQ.

He was a very wonderful, pleasant man to visit with!! We went in and ordered our food, it was absolutely phenomenal, the ribs were delicious, the pulled pork was fabulous, not dry at all, and the burnt beef ends were awesome!!! They have an apple bbq sauce that is an absolutely must try with your pulled pork!!! Steve Zarda, and his daughter that was working this evening also, Jennifer I believe was her name, were so welcoming and very pleasant to visit with!!! We will most definitely be back to eat again, way too many yummy items on their menu to try them all tonight!!! Thank you so much Steve and family the terrific service and delicious food, along with our pleasant conversation our evening was truly enjoyable!!!

The kung pao chicken was loaded with crunchy veggies and had a nice kick to it. The lo mein wasn’t overly salted, had tons of veggies and a really nice sweet (peanut-y?) flavor in the sauce. Fantastic, crunchy eggrolls. Some of the best Chinese we’ve found in KC.“
