I've never had hand roll sushi before and I think I'm spoiled now that this was my first experience. Everything was so delicious. If you're a fan of sushi, be sure to come here. Prices were pretty standard relative to other sushi places for the amount of food you get.
This is a fav in my rotation. Always fresh and tasty. There is a to go entrance on the left. The door to the right , there is a large line to get a seat. Probably not the best place for a large group if you wish to sit next to one another. No tables here. Bar seating only. First come first serve.
The rolls. My good lord, the rolls. It's a fast restaurant. You'll sit, eat, and probably be out of there in 20 min or less. The rolls are fantastic. They use a high quality seaweed that breaks apart easily when bitten into. The rice is warmer than what you'll probably be use to but they do this so it warms up the seaweed when they roll it. The fish inside of the roll is really cold. So you get this really fantastic cold, hot, crunch temperature and texture when you eat it.
Awesome spot that if you can get a table without waiting is a quick and delicious lunch for a decent price. Rolls only but really tasty and a good amount of fish. The ambiance is fun being at a bar type environment and the service is always top notch. Tips are included in the bill and the next door garage does not validate, but such is life in downtown!
Good, fresh sushi. There was a line that moved pretty quickly. I'd prefer a wider selection, but their hand rolls were very good.

Exceptional sushi! One of the best I've had, my only complaint is that it is a little pricey compared to other sushi places of similar caliber. Sushi chef was great, serving dishes at a good pace. Sushi quality and ingredients were superb. Servers were very prompt in clearing dishes and refilling drinks. Overall great experience, and will probably come back after trying more of the other top notch omakase places. No walk-ins, reservations only. There is street parking but during peak hours it is very expensive, you are better off parking at a lot for a fixed rate. There's one close to the location between 4th and 3rd street that is $8 flat rate and was cheaper than paying 2 hours on the parking meter which can get up to $6 an hour depending on the demand base rate.
One of the best sushi in LA. You definitely need reservations for Zo. All 20+ pieces was perfectly crafted and all the fish was so fresh. Best Omakase for you money.
Excellent food and service! Reservation-only Omakase will leave you wanting to come back the very next day. Come hungry as you will not want to leave any of the 25+ delectable courses untouched. My personal favorites were the skipjack and ankimo but all of the courses were excellent.
Loved the sushi, got to try quite a few fishes I've never had before. They only serve omakase (chef's choice), but it's definitely worth it. Every piece was seasoned perfectly, no need for your own wasabi or soy sauce. Just sit back and enjoy a beautiful meal. FYI they are located at the corner of a office building without any sign on the outside.
Wonderful Omakase experience!

The Sushi at Sushi Gen is the best outside of Japan. And I've been to Japan. Don't miss it! The excellent service made it a precious memory! yummy, can't wait to go back
Quick service, arrived early by 15 minutes before opening and waited another half hour to be seated unless you go to the sushi counter which I could have done right away. But then no lunch menu. Very fresh. Chirashi had four tunas, three raw and one cooked. Just missing the salmon eggs and sea urchin which I normally see in other places. The extra tunas made up for it. Parking is two dollars the first two hours or less with validation.
Great smoothies. Got the matcha and the pineapple mango (daily special). Impressed with the care taken to make them. Nice cozy space, friendly staff.
Small space but cozy atmosphere. Excellent and friendly service. The spaghetti Bolognese with zucchini was fresh and delicious.
I can't believe I deprived myself for two years, since moving to LA, and just now went to this sushi spot. Not sure what to say except for - excellent quality, great flavors, reasonable prices, fun environment (you can either have a table or sit at the bar - menus are different). Be prepared for a wait.

This is probably the best sushi for the price in the area. It's a traditional and a little small, so if it's not a weekday you'll probably have to wait a bit. Everything is fresh and the staff is friendly. Their scallops are rather large and their sweet shrimp is very fairly priced.
If you want very traditional, extremely fresh sushi, go here! It's very small, but definitely worth the wait (and there probably will be one). When I say 'traditional' I mean no rolls or California style options. Makes you feel as if you're in Japan!
Best option if there's no wait. Traditional and efficient. Service was ok. Could easily spend over 100 per on food alone. Lunch special is great value for around $20. Snapper always on point.
There are several great sushi shops in Little Tokyo but this is my favorite. It is a cozy spot with a very friendly staff. Not big so get there early or be prepared for a wait. But don't worry, the wait is well worth it.
A small place with a nice japanese atmosphere, fresh and tasty sushi, a bit expensive.

One of my favorite sushi spots in little Tokyo. No crazy rolls. No weird sauces. Just the basics. Generous and great quality. Super small place usually with a wait
The joint is really small and busy. (Thats a good sign right?) I had to wait 40 minutes but thankfully you have the entire "little toyko" center to roam around kill some time. I really enjoyed the presentation of our food. It looks almost like a painting, or even fake. The wasabi is extremely spicy! Much spicier than most other Japanese restaurants. The Ikura was way too salty for me at the restaurant. I had to spit it out right after I put it in my mouth. Aside from the Ikura, my sushi experience here was great. I will definitely be back for more soon. :)
I love this little restaurant! Best sushi in Los Angeles hands down. Service is amazing and everything is completely fresh and made right in front of you.. for the ultimate Japanese dining experience! Just a heads up to call before for reservation.
Best sushi place in little tokyo, and may be in downtown. If you are making a visit to Komasa, make sure to put your name on the waiting list, cause there usually always a wait.
One of the best sushi place in jtown! The fish are fresh and cut are fantastic.
