“After surfing through a few results that had mixed reviews, I landed on this spot in Williamsburg. Solid amount of stars and reviews (you can also tell a lot about a place that has a nice website, duh) intrigued me so I clicked through. Sorted through the photos of the food and they definitely had the steak I was looking for but I needed to confirm a few other things - do they require reservations? When are they serving dinner? Is this place a hole-in-the-wall (I don't mind holes-in-the-wall, just wasn't what I was looking that afternoon)? I double check their Yelp page and the site and I was glad to see that no reservations are required and dinner was starting at 5 - cocktails and empanadas were available until 5 came around. They have a nice dining room/bar area with a nice little dining area in the back, and also outdoors in the front. I wanted to be inside that day considering the high temps due to the humidity.

I finally get to the spot, and I say finally because I had to go back to 14th St Manhattan and connect from there to get to Williamsburg, 23 mins before they start to serve dinner. When I walked in I felt a very intimate yet lively latin vibe - it was dimly lit and there was good music being played at a comfortable volume. I don't like it when I'm dining out and the server and I have to compete over the music to hear each other so these guys definitely had it right. I would definitely bring a date here. I was greeted by the bartender and let him know I wanted to grab a solo seat for dinner. He asked if I had a reservation, which I thought was a little odd and led me to believe Yelp and the website wasn't up-to-date but when I replied no, he said it was no issue. He told me to grab a seat anywhere I liked so I sat at the bar and he advised me that they won't start serving dinner until 5 o'clock as I mentioned previously. After I got myself situated, I excused myself to the bathroom to wash up. I took note of the back dining area which was really nice. The bathroom was clean and it looks like they take care of it on the regular so those are more points in my book. I got back to my seat and the bartender pours me a glass of water and leaves a bottle at the table. I should've asked if they had sparkling and opted for that. The tap-water is just way too warm, but it was what it was. I didn't opt for any other drinks, considering I don't drink sodas or alcohol. Bartender handed me a menu which confused me for a bit because it seemed like it was drink menu - it was smaller than size than a normal menu. I'm browsing through and noticed at the bottom of the menu, besides their wifi network and password, they only take cash and American Express. Odd but maybe that's a NY restaurant thing? I double-checked that with the bartender and he said they have an ATM in the back in case I needed it. Turns out I had enough cash on hand and continue looking over the menu. I get to the entrees and I find the Churrasco and I let the bartender I wanted that medium. I should've asked him if they could throw an over-easy egg on top.

About 15-20 minutes later, one of the BEST steaks I ever had was served. The presentation was amazing! The steak was cooked to perfection - nice and tender and the color was just right. It came with a side of chimichurri which unlike other ones I've had, wasn't too salty. As you can see in the photo I took, the steak also came with a side of greens and these potatoes that were like no other, crispy on the outside and perfectly baked on the inside.

All-in-all I would definitely come back to Tabaré and I'm willing to bet everything else on their menu is just as out-of-this-world as this steak!“

“Excellent meal. Every course of the tasting menu was awesome - delicious with great presentation, the wine pairings were lovely. Service was extremely attentive and they did a great job of explaining each food and beverage item in detail. Atmosphere was cool, meal was not rushed. All for a very reasonable price for what you’re getting. Love that they rotate the entire menu regularly with the resident chefs so you can go back and have a completely different experience over and over. As a bonus, if you arrive early, Little Rascals right next door is an amazing cocktail bar to kill some time.“

“Delicious and huge meal! As a foreigner I wanted to try some different dishes, found this place on google maps, not so far from where I was, looked good, cheap price, perfect for me! The server, she was so lovely but to my surprise she didn’t know English, but with my low Spanish skills we managed to communicate perfectly. She was so kind and did her best to explain everything to me (fortunately the menu was English). She treated me nicely, like a family member, and we even did a little language lesson. Unfortunately, I don’t remember the name of the meal (it was one with a picture of it) but it was one of the best’s I’ve ever had! It was literally a piece of any meat you could imagine, veggies, beans, eggs, rice, all of it together. I was full after it, couldn’t even eat the whole plate. I feel like if I was Ecuadorian, this would be the way my mom cooks. I added to it a a milkshake, with was freshly made by the server herself. It took a bit of time to prepare, but it was worth the wait and totally understood from how it looked and how amazing it tasted!“

“Came here after dreaming about trying mangú for years. The mangú itself is not on the menu, but comes with salami, fried cheese, and pickled onion. The pairing was perfect and the acidity of the onions matched well with the salty fattiness of the cheese and salami. We also got the pork chunks with beans and rice - also super delicious. The passion fruit and tamarind drinks complimented our meals and we were happily stuffed after (portion sizes are quite large).“

Also, from time to time they have a cheese grits with shrimp dish that is da bomb!!! It can be crowded sometimes, but never have waited to long to find a seat. There's just a good flow of people coming in and out. Been coming here for at least a year. “My husband ate nothing but these empanadas for WEEKS begging me to bring these back for him whenever I came back from work. I didn't understand how he could eat only one thing until I tried it for myself and oh my God are these amazing. If you're trying empanadas for the first time the Beef empanadas are a must, they have some very adventurous offerings on the menu and while I myself love some veggie empanadas, this place is a carnivore's delight. Do NOT skip on getting the chimichurri, it's probably a pain to make but it's incredible. There's a poor college student that's probably dicing all the herbs by hand, mixing olive oil, putting their heart into that sauce and I robbed that woman asking for like 8 containers of the stuff. To the woman who made that fantastic sauce I'm sorry that I ask for so much of it, hopefully you get enough business now that you can sell it fresh by the bottle. Absolutely love this place, a must if you're in Brooklyn looking for a solid lunch!“

“The food and service exceeded my expectations. It also has this 90's style spanish restaurant vibe to it. No complaints at all. This is a great establishment. Must try if you want chinese or spanish cuisine.

Parking: May or may not find parking within the visual of the restaurant, depending on the time and date you arrive.

Kid-friendliness: The more people, the more business, of course , is kid friendly.

Wheelchair accessibility: Has a ramp upon entry.“
