“Gang of three had a wonderful lunch at Anassa Taverna a few weeks ago, so when a dear friend came to town this was the place to go, along with my guy. Turns out he's had several happy meals here, branzino his fave. So much for a surprise! I love the grotto-like entry leading to a lavish display of fresh veggies, so inviting. Window table makes great street viewing and the noise level was cheerful, like the friendly waitstaff. Good bread and excellent tahini started us, decent white wine and spicy Virgin Mary for me. The prix-fixe is a great option...slightly smaller portions of what I would have ordered anyway: Avgolemono soup was among the best I've had, full of rice, fresh herbs and perfectly balanced; ground lamb kebabs, delightfully garlicky and deeply lamb-y (not so easy to get nowadays), accompanied by yummy herbed fries, tsaziki and excellent salad; then two tiny but delicious baklava pillows. Branzino and chicken breast also graced the table, and a hugely aromatic raspberry sorbet. We schmoozed, and were left undisturbed - truly a blessing.“

“For a fast early Sunday dinner, I joined a friend at Souvlaki GR Midtown. At 5pm on a Sunday, the establishment only had a few occupied tables, so we received seating immediately. We decided to share the Lamb Shank ($30), Octopadi Stifado ($29), and 2x Chicken Skewers ($5.75 ea). Both the skewers and the Octopadi Stifado came served with pita. The lamb shank, described in the menu as "slow cooked lamb shank with orzo in tomato sauce", arrived just shy of fall-off-the-bone tender, bathed in a savory tomato sauce that soaked into the orzo. I used the pita to full effect in order to soak up every last drop of sauce. The Octopadi Stifado, an octopus stew w/caramelized onions in tomato sauce, had an even more savory tomato sauce, mixed with olive oil that carried the octopus flavor everywhere. Once again, the pita proved useful. The chicken skewers, with decent juice and char, proved irresistible. The pita arrived warm and fluffy. None of that dense brick nonsense that seems ubiquitous. Service proved fast. Dinner from seating to the check took 45 minutes.“

“I decided to come to Milo's based on a recommendation. It's weird for me to eat in midtown because I truly hate the location. The restaurant is huge and beautiful. A little overwhelming for my liking and very corporate. The service was great, there were at least 3 waiters attending to us at all times. One waiter brought us over to the fish section to choose the fish of our liking. I think it's a nice touch but very overpriced. We chose the scallops and they were delicious. We ordered the crab cake, octopus and oysters. Honestly, probably one of the best oysters I've had. The octopus and crab cake was also delicious. The only negative on the crab cake was that there were many shells left inside. We ordered a mezcal drink from their cocktail specials and that was not great at all. We are definitely mezcal drinkers and it just wasn't there. We switched our drinks for wine and that was MUCH better. I would definitely go back for wine and a oyster happy hour!“

“Simply exquisite. Stumbled upon this gem almost by accident. I had Googled Mediterranean near me, to find Nerai was only 3 blocks away. I was a bit apprehensive that we’d be able to find a table on a Saturday night without a reservation, but the happily accommodated our party of four. My simple review will not do this place justice. The dishes were beautiful and delicious. In addition, the service was excellent.“

“Their stuff is off the HOOK! I've been getting mostly chicken and pork sticks either on a platter or as a sandwich, and they's always been great, for some reason I hadn't tried the Lamb until today, OMG, one of th best Gyros I've ever had. The only complaint I have is if you get there at the wrong time the line gets pretty long, but that's just a testament as to how good their stuff really is! Keep up the great work!“

“I've been to this bakery at least 100+ times. This is the real deal in every way. Now for those people that have never worked in a bakery you cannot fully understand how difficult it is.The food and deserts here are top notch. I will say sometimes the service may seem lacking but I Can assure you it's not personal. They are exhausted from all the hard work that goes into putting out this great product. Please know you will not get better Greek baked goods in NYC!I approve this message.Helen Thorne“

“Recently, my wife and I discovered Symposium, a hidden gem in North Manhattan, while driving home. Its Greek sign beckoned us into an experience reminiscent of the cozy taverns in Athens, where entering feels like stepping into a secret cave or basement. Celebrating Greece’s Independence Day and the Feast of the Annunciation on March 25th, we were delighted by the traditional dishes that paid homage to these significant events, much like the celebrations back home in Greece. The highlight of our meal was the cod with garlic spread (μπακαλιάρο σκορδαλιά), a signature dish for the day, embodying the essence of Greek tradition. Our feast also included crispy octopus, kalamarakia, French fries sprinkled with feta, shrimp saganaki, a refreshing Greek salad, authentic Greek coffee, portokalopita, and the sublime galaktoboureko. Each dish transported us to Greece with its authentic flavors, as if homemade.Accompanied by a “Savvatiano” crisp, cold white Greek wine, served in an ice bucket to maintain its chill, the dining experience was elevated. The staff’s politeness and hospitality added to the warmth of the evening, and the generous aperitif of Samos wine from the manager before our departure was a gracious touch.Symposium stands out not just for its genuine Greek cuisine but also for being the sole authentic Greek restaurant above 110th Street in North Manhattan, making it a perfect choice for our family. We are grateful for the memorable evening and look forward to returning. Thank you, Symposium, for a wonderful dining experience. Until next time.“

“I am regular patron and always love the food, service, ambience especially for my clients. This time around, we had a group of 8 but felt all crammed and boxed in. Couple of guests could not even get out of their seats without others getting up. Music was a bit too loud on the evening and hard to have a conversation across the table!“

“Been here once before and I think it was better this time. They make a great gyro and it is authentic too. Love the french fries in the gyro. All flavors just worked. The spinach pie was good but nothing special. The haloumi appetizer was good too. Being Cypriot I know halloumi well and they did it right. This is a solid spot and I would come back in a heartbeat.“

“Same operation as the famed Astoria eatery and just as good if not better, in a way. Decor was fresh and rather East village, the menu was varied and true to the Astoria precedent, and the wait staff was friendly and accommodating. I opted for two vegetarian appetizers as my meal on my companion hub roasted chicken with rice. All was thoughtfully prepared and presented. I would highly recommend this place for a date night or just a quick stop for nutrition. Delightful in every way! Will definitely be coming back.Vegetarian options: The crispy veggie chips were delicious as was the tzatziki which accompanied them. The spanakopita was traditional and flavorsome!“

“This is a restaurant specializing in grilled chicken. I have only gotten takeouts from here so I cannot speak to what the restaurant atmosphere is like. The food portion is generous an prices are reasonable for the neighborhood. I usually get the half chicken. The chicken seasoning is good and I like the smoky grill flavor, but I find that the meat can be quite dry and tough.“
