“We ordered for the first time tonight from Sammy, former proprietor of JuJu’s Bagels now transformed into El Toum. We ordered 4 items and they were ready for pickup in less than 25 minutes. The Mixed Kebab platter, Kofta Burger with fries, Falafel Sandwich with extra tahini sauce, and El Toum Appetizer were refreshingly homemade, tasted delicious, and proved outstanding bangs for the buck. More than enough food for a family of four with leftovers. This is a very welcome addition to a neighborhood missing this kind of fare. I highly recommend supporting this local business. Some of the best falafel and tabouli I’ve tasted in quite some time too!”

Got the quesabirria con consume & the Al Pastor tacos. Quesabirria was solid but the Al Pastor was truly a standout. Some of the best I’ve ever had, and I lived in San Diego for a couple years.

Great drinks, only minor complaint was that the drinks didn’t have a price on the menu, but nothing ended up being excessive.

“This food truck serves some of the heartiest momo on the streets of Jackson Heights. We got 8 thick and meaty beef momo for $8 at Amdo Kitchen. The go-to sauces here are the red sauce and white sauce. The halal momo are complimented with a thicker, chewier dough than other momos - it takes me three bites to finish each one. Amdo Momo is a favorite for those looking for an authentic taste of Tibetan cuisine. Don't forget to ask for the side of radish!”

“This is one of my fave coffee shops in NYC! I lived all over Bedstuy & Bushwick & when I moved to JH I was on the hunt for a real Almond Croissant & americano. I finally found it here.
All the pastries are made downstairs. The spinach or guava empanadas & the espressos and cold brew are also top notch. We go here so much that we have gotten to know the owner!”

“Stopped by for the veg chow mein and really enjoyed it. The flavor was great, well seasoned and tasty. It came to around $12 total, and honestly the portion felt a little small for the price. I wish they'd give a bit more, but the taste made up for it and I'll definitely be coming back to try more dishes.

Tip for other customers: pay with cash if you can, since card payments come with an extra fee.

“They don't serve food, hence the single star in that one. I'm a married man with kids so when I do go out it's gotta be good. I prefer things low key but memorable. The bartenders were both extremely friendly and even though I'm in hospitality and know from the food and beverage staff at my hotel that substitutions can sometimes be a pain, when I asked the man to add a bit of gin to one of their mocktails, he happily obliged. They also have a great, of small, list of great craft beers. Speaking of small, this bar is in the style of a speakeasy. It feels like a place that you're not supposed to find and that's part of its charm. You go upstairs. Find the light from inside peeking through the curtain and once inside there's a bar about six stools and maybe another 10 people can sit at the shadow tables and easy chairs at the back. Again, a feature not a bug. I had a German porter that the bartender described perfectly so I knew I could trust their recommendations. I'll be back, most likely on my birthday or after the weather changes, like around Thanksgiving. It's such a special experience that I wanna save it for the good conversations with close friends. The Irish pub or the sports bar will be the weekly place but Upstairs is for three friend I haven't seen in a while or that after dinner spot when the wife and I get some time and get to enjoy some Thai, Nepali or Indonesian food nearby then we take a short walk to a plane that makes us feel young and cool again.”

“Some of you coming from TikTok or insta need to lower your expectations a bit. This is a tiny 2 people run cafe serving home style Japanese sandwiches and ramen not a fancy omakase restaurant. It was never meant to handle this volume of business and some of you complaining about the owner’s attitude need to think about this from the owner’s perspective a bit. I came on a pretty busy day and witnessed this man dealing with a bunch of high school kids going in and out of his shop asking for a million things but got forbid the man’s a little cranky bc heck I would’ve told them to get out. But he still served them and served me and apologized for the wait which I greatly appreciated. And was it the best sandwich and ramen I’ve ever had? No but it was pretty dang good for a cafe in the middle of Queens. Some of y’all need to chill.”

We stayed in Jackson Heights, and on our final night before leaving, we ate at Empanadas Mix.

We had Cachapa and it was delicious!

“I’ve been to Nepali Bhancha Ghar before, and this definitely won’t be my last visit. One thing I really loved this time was the buff momo. I hadn’t had good buff momo in such a long time, and these really hit the spot. It was honestly one of the highlights of my meal.

Unfortunately, I can’t say the same about the duck sekuwa. I started regretting my order almost as soon as it arrived, and after trying it, I was even more disappointed. It was very dry, and I found several bones and some parts that were quite burnt. It seemed like it may have been cooked directly over a high flame rather than slowly over hot charcoal, which I think made a big difference. Sekuwa, to me, should be juicy, smoky, and well seasoned, but this was unfortunately quite dry and lacking in flavor.

What made it more disappointing was the price. I had spent about an hour and a half of my wages on this dish, so it honestly felt pretty bad to spend that much on something I didn't enjoy. I still tipped the servers because I know the preparation of the food isn't their responsibility.

Interestingly, after coming home and reading some of the other reviews, I noticed similar comments about the chicken sekuwa. One review described it as “really dry and barely having any flavor,” which was almost exactly my experience with the duck sekuwa as well.

I’m sharing this more as a suggestion than a complaint. I really like this place and would still come back for the momo and other Nepali dishes, but I genuinely think the sekuwa needs some attention. Either the preparation method could be changed significantly, or perhaps this particular dish should be reconsidered for the menu. With the right smoky, juicy, well-seasoned preparation, I think the sekuwa could be something really special.

Overall, I appreciate the restaurant and the food, and I hope this feedback is taken in the spirit it's intended — as a suggestion from someone who wants to enjoy and support the place again.”

“Tried Food Junction for the first time and honestly the food was really good. Everything tasted fresh and you can tell they cook it on the spot instead of just reheating food. The shrimp was seasoned perfectly, the rice had a lot of flavor, and the fries were crispy too. The portions were good and the food came out hot and fresh.

What I liked most is that they have a little bit of everything. Pizza, burgers, platters, drinks, fries, and all kinds of food, so there’s something for everyone. Plus everything is halal which makes it even better. Definitely a spot worth trying if you want fresh food with good flavor and decent portions.”

Since we have tried Nepali food all over the Jackson heights , lake side is only the vibes we felt with great hospitality, server was very nice with warm welcome with a smile on her face .
