“I love me some teriyaki bowl, and because I am on the road all day with my job, I get the opportunity to try several different restaurants on a monthly basis. This is one of the best, and Jonathan and his team make fantastic food and have created a very friendly environment. I will definitely be returning.“

“This is the best teriyaki place that you'll find in Portland. The food is great and fresh vegetables never had a bad meal been going here for over 10 years I would recommend hot rice to anybody that wants to enjoy a nice meal inside it's very clean the air conditioning works well and your server is the best she knows everything about the menu“

“I thought I was indifferent to curry. I was wrong.
This place is the most amazing Japanese curry I've ever eaten. The Doria is my favorite. I have been in their shop three times and the owner and staff are so nice and the atmosphere is great.
I order on postmates often (twice this week). My only complaint is that I wish they'd sell the ice cream via delivery too as well as their other tasty drinks.“

“The husband and I were on a ramen rampage, and the weather was our perfect excuse. Then, out of nowhere, we stumbled upon this restaurant. The service was spot-on, the food arrived in record time, and that ramen? Sheer perfection. The broth was a flavor bomb, the chashu was tender and divine, and those noodles? Freshly made and sublime. We left feeling like we just discovered ramen nirvana.“

“Anyone can seemingly make sushi seem better by making it more complex, but the real test is whether they can take the simple and make it excellent. Sushi-Ki-ichi does just that. They stick to the simple offerings, leading to an experience that feels less Americanized than other Japanese restaurants. That's not to say I don't love some level of creativity, but you don't need it here. That's because the family that owns Sushi Ki-ichi wants to create an authentic meal - a notion that was confirmed for sure when we had a conversation with the owner. In fact, they take quality to the next level with their equipment and efforts they take to make sure that what they serve is the highest quality, including specific freezers for the fish. We didn't try Sushi Ki-ichi for the first couple of years because we figured that the previous restaurant, a Chinese buffet that had gone downhill and fallen off the cliff, had rebranded and reopened as something new. Now I feel that for those first couple of years, we missed out. This has quickly become my favorite place in Portland. I look forward to any trips I take across town from Vancouver to Tigard, and make a point to stop in and grab a bite.“

“The best meal I have had at any Portland restaurant! We ate our way through the entire menu and each dish was amazing and the perfect combination of flavors! Highly recommend this for any occasion, we will definitely be back. The staff and chef made us feel like life long friends. Sitting at the counter was an extra special treat and enlightening into the dish preparations.“

“Skip Bamboo and come here.
The takoyaki is insanely good. Never had a roll I didn't like, and every other item I have tried here was good-to-great. Prices can't be beat, and you always get service with a smile. A real gem that shouldn't be overlooked.“

“After spending a couple of hours wandering Powell’s, I stumbled into Hana Sushi and Izakaya — and wow, what a find! This place is a total gem. The conveyor belt sushi setup is fun, fast, and full of incredibly fresh options. You can tell they take real pride in the quality of their fish — everything from the buttery salmon nigiri to the spicy tuna rolls was spot-on.
The vibe is cozy but modern, with friendly staff and a surprisingly wide variety of dishes rotating through. I also loved the little izakaya touches — some tasty hot dishes and sake options if you're looking to linger. Bonus: the prices are totally reasonable, so you can try a bit of everything without breaking the bank.“

“We had an excellent dining experience at Akizawa, with outstanding food, drinks, and service. Despite some previous reviews mentioning a one-hour time limit for two people, the staff was flexible and didn’t rush us—possibly because the restaurant wasn’t full.
Here’s a breakdown of what we ordered:
• Grilled Duck (Appetizer): Tender, juicy, and full with umami flavor.
• Pork Tonkatsu (Appetizer): A lean cut of meat that was very tender and not dry at all. The crust was light and perfectly crispy.
• Nigiri and Sushi Rolls: The fish was incredibly fresh, and the rice was well-prepared with just the right balance. As a fan of Edomae-style (more vinegary) rice, I found their rice slightly different but still excellent. We only wished they offered chutoro, which wasn’t available, and a wider variety of fish.
• Caramel Pudding (Dessert): Tasty but not particularly memorable.
• Sake: The staff provided thoughtful recommendations based on our preferences and even let us sample a few options before we chose a bottle we loved.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the experience. We’ll definitely return and recommend Akizawa to anyone looking for a great dining experience!“

“We love this place! We eat here regularly, and truly enjoy the food, cocktails, service, and ambiance. The black cod miso yaki is our favorite dish - it's delicious and I highly recommend it. The veggie and shrimp tempura is the best I've ever had, with an interesting mix of eggplant, mushrooms, squash, lotus root, and onions - all lightly battered and served with a delightful dipping sauce (pour the dipping sauce on the black cod, it's so good). The cocktails, especially the Japanese 75 and the shiso gin drink (I can't think of the name), are well-balanced and mixed properly, and are very yummy. I tell everyone I know to try this place! Some of the food can seem adventurous if you're not familiar with Japanese fare, but it's all delicious and beautifully presented. Finally, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the owner is a very sweet and funny lady. All around, Sushi Kuni is a great dining experience and I highly recommend checking it out.“

“One of the best Teriyaki places in the area.
The young gentleman working the front was just amazing. He was managing a VERY fast flow of customers and kept very pleasant and professional demeanor.
Like everyone has said, portions for the price are pre-pandemic quantities and the quality of the chicken was excellent. It was cooked with prefect char.
Salad was fresh and plentiful (iceberg--but at least fresh--unlike my last teriyaki experience.)
I'll definitely be back.“

“This place is one of the best teriyaki places in the entire area of downtown portland. Generous portions worth every single penny ❤️
The charred chicken pieces are extremely perfect and juicy, dressed in perfect homemade teriyaki sauce.
The pot stickers on the other hand, have the gingery aroma flavor, makes it more palatable and appetizing at the same time.“

“🌟 A Return Worth Celebrating! 🌟
This was my second visit—and honestly, it was just as unforgettable as the first. I originally came here to celebrate my birthday, and the food blew me away so much that I had to come back for more.
Every dish I ordered was a masterpiece. The house tonkatsu ramen was rich and comforting, with a broth that could warm your soul. The dynamite salmon roll, hello kitty roll, and kazien roll each brought their own unique flavor profiles and textures—playful, bold, and beautifully balanced.
But the real showstopper? The chef’s choice sashimi. Each slice of fish was paired with toppings that elevated the flavor to a whole new level. It was clear that every detail was thoughtfully curated, and the result was nothing short of spectacular.
If you're looking for a place that delivers not just amazing food but a memorable experience, this is it. I’ll definitely be back again.“

“I love stopping by this spot for a quick cucumber roll because it’s so affordable and the service is so amazing at the cart! I’ve ordered the cucumber roll and cucumber/avocado roll many times and they’re huge servings for a very low price. Once when I came to the cart and it was cold and rainy, they gave me a complimentary miso soup which was sooooo nice and I still remember the gesture!
Today I just asked for a cucumber roll and I was given a cucumber roll and a cucumber/avocado roll extra for no charge. Not sure if it was a mistake or not but I’m a happy customer and will continue to return and tell others :-)“

“Great Japanese grill and sushi, friendly staff, nice decor. This was our first time here and we thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. “I had to use the bathroom and they let me without buying anything. I then ordered the Oregon Roll just to try. I normally don't like Sushi, but it was so good I might be into it now. I'll have to go back and try some more or whatever... It's good 👍“

“I had a nice, relaxed experience here the other evening. It was somewhat busy but the server got my order quickly. I enjoyed some quality sake while waiting for my sushi. The wait, not so long, was worth it. I loved the Playboy roll, with seared tuna, and the Mango Tango roll even more. The miso soup was good; the decor and atmosphere was pretty cool. But the sushi was delicious. I'd highly recommend this restaurant. I'll be back for sure.“

“The food was very good, but the service is very slow. Hard to find your server, when you need to order a drink or more food. When ordering a beer or drink, at least 10 minutes for it to come out. The people bringing your food and drinks out were great!“

“TL;DR: Good sushi, unforgettable Portland dining.
After years of searching for my favorite sushi spot in Portland, I finally found Yosu.
Now, I won’t say it’s the best sushi in the city, I’m probably not qualified to do that, and honestly, there’s a food truck that still wins my heart for pure quality.
My sample size was small, though. I only had one roll, the Red Dragon Roll. It wasn’t life-changing, but it was solid. It’s what you would expect from your sushi options in town. The calamari, though, was *chef’s kiss*, lightly breaded, crispy, and meaty in all the right ways. The miso soup was fine/good, and the cucumber salad was fresh and interesting (though the martini glass presentation was awkward to eat from).
Where Yosu really stands out is the experience. The place nailed its mix of traditional Japanese art and Portland quirk. Big glowing windows on Broadway, fun neon lighting, fun spacey murals and music that actually adds to the vibe. The plating was the cutest and most fun I’ve ever seen, and the staff’s traditional-style jackets tie the whole theme together perfectly.
I felt that someone truly cares about all of the small details and I really appreciate that.
Whether you are visiting Portland and looking for a memorable sushi experience, or you live here, Yosu is absolutely worth a stop.“

“Chicken Teriyaki 8/10.
This spot is one of those hidden gems that people call a "hole in the wall," but trust me, the food is really tasty. It's pretty tiny, but if you swing by during your lunch break and get it to go, it's manageable. The chicken teriyaki gets an 8 out of 10, and the veggies that come with it are tasty and not overcooked. However, the steak teriyaki isn't as impressive because they use a lower-quality cut of beef, and it's chopped up too small. The older Caucasian guy at the counter is always super friendly, while the younger Mexican staff are just okay. They’re not rude, but you can tell they’re just there to take your order and move on. Overall, I'm really happy I discovered this place, and I would definitely recommend it.“

“While we did pick-up, we were in and out in the time they had said it would take. Where we live we don’t have a lot of teriyaki joints to eat at. This is one I said to my wife we need to come back to next time we’re visiting. The chicken and sauce are 🤌🏻. My leftovers were as good the next day as the day I had them. It’s worth going to.“

“I’ll admit that when I walked in I was not exactly encouraged by its style. But what Bentoz may lack it decoration it makes up for in the quality of its food. My 3 other family members had the chicken teriyaki and I had the bibimbap myself and it was really good. So good that on the first bite I literally said “Wow, this is really good” in the middle of the restaurant. Definitely recommend for anyone who happens to be staying/visiting in the area“

“Prepared and delivered quickly. Everything was delicious! Aloha poke, musubi, salmon rolls, tuna rolls and shrimp tempura. Hearty portions were filling. I have an injury and was unable to go in person. So glad we chose this for delivery. Definitely recommend!“
“I went here with my friends whilst we were out with one of their cats (in a carrier, of course). We showed up fully prepared to sit at the outside tables; however, the very kind server took note of the weather, and asked us if we would rather sit inside. I appreciate them and the folks inside for taking care of us.
The food was great. I got and shared an array sushi. My friends got a Mio Ramen and a Mio Champon and they both loved it. The champon was outstanding, everything tasted really fresh. I definitely look forward to coming back soon! Normally, I'd post pictures here, but the food was so good that we forgot!“

“Definitely has a cool retro vibe. Advertising looks like bento/teriyaki place but much more of a sub place. Plenty of these bento places do this like Taste ticklers as the most famous one in Loyd district.I did their torpedo (ham, salami, Bologna, pastrami and provolone) and it was fantastic. The chicken teriyaki was ok. The sandwiches are what you go here for.It has a really good vibe but it's a sandwich shop deep down.“

“if you want to eat fish, they have fish and definitely don't skimp on the portions. If all you care about is the food tasting good and its reasonably priced and good portions, this is the sushi spot. If you want your food to look fancy and be expensive then i would recommend eating elsewhere. I'm not saying the sushi looks bad, sometimes the rolls are a little sloppy and fall apart. I love unagi and i love dragon rolls. Do NOT order the dragon roll here it makes me sad. Their salmon is really good though. Would recommend the spider roll.
Side note:
4.7 stars on google with over 900 reviews! that would make this one of the best sushi shops in the Portland area. There are some restaurants that have 4.8-5 stars but significantly less reviews.“
