“I walked into Circle Coffee for the first time ( all bright eyed and not decaffeinated, and I totally forgot to ask for my coffee decaf ( or what my sister calls sad coffee). By the time I realized, they’d already made my coffee and I was walking out the door— but instead of giving me the “well that’s on you” look, they smiled, told me to gift the original to a coworker ( who now thinks I’m the nicest person alive) and made me a fresh decaf for free. Heroes are baristas apparently. The shop itself is a whole vibe — calm, great lighting and welcoming atmosphere—enough ambiance to trick me into thinking I’m the kind of person who journals daily or could write a novel. Also, do NOT sleep on the strawberry goat cheese danish. It’s seriously delicious. I took one bite and considered writing it into my will. Life changing and I’m probably emotionally attached to it now. This place has great vibes, great people, and even better coffee and pastries. Highly recommend.”

“This evening was my and my husband's first time eating here, we came with three of our friends. I appreciated the sign on the door stating that they were working short and waiting times might be longer. Despite this, we waited no longer for our food than what I consider to be normal on a Saturday night. The food was cooked so well, very good flavors, and presented very nicely. The prices are very fair for the amount you get. The service was warm and not overdone, the perfect amount of checking in and asking if things were going well. Plenty of covered outdoor seating, and some limited hours for lobby seating. It feels like a trip back in time getting to order from the back window and sit amongst other families and friends on the patio. My favorite order is a strawberry malt (made with real
Strawberries) with extra malt powder on top.”

The enchiladas are packed full of authentic flavored red sauce, ground beef and topped with shredded cheese. So moist, full flavor, and slightly crispy on the edges. The rice is good and the refried beans are seasoned with flavor that you can taste (unlike most Mexican restaurants). The pork tamale with red sauce is also a favorite of ours. They are big, moist, and full of flavor as well. The salsa and fresh tortilla chips and also delicious. The salsa is so good we could drink it. We plan to try other menu items but its hard when these items are so amazing. Also want to mention that the service is also memorable. The husband and wife team that run the restaurant are so down to earth, kind, and talented that it really makes for a great experience everytime we go. I should also mention this is a small but cozy place perfect for a lunch date or authentic experience. Thank you for giving an meal today that we will never forget.”

“I asked the internet for lunch options and it sent me here. Trusting the internet and it brought me a fabulous lunch. It truly does not look like much from the outside. And to be fair, it doesn't look like much on the inside either.

Just after noon on a workday, I think I was the first customer for lunch. The three ladies inside are moms and grandmoms and they were chatting away when I arrived. I ordered the Thursday special and they scattered to prepare it. A few minutes later, a plate of roast pork and roasted cactus arrived with a small salad and three handmade tortillas. I skipped the tortillas but ate ALL the rest of it. This was delicious, handmade with care.

This is a tiny spot that perhaps was a gas station in a previous life. But today, it's a hole in the wall Latin restaurant (Mexican? Guatemalan? I have no idea.) that served up a great lunch!”

“The customer service I received this sunday at Perkin’s was phenomenal. I went out to eat with my mother in law and my infant son. He is at the teething age therefore he is quite cranky. The entire beginning of us getting there and ordering was filled with him crying (which is not fun in a restaurant). Once our meals came, a sweet older lady who is a team lead there, came to our table and offered to hold my crying son so I can eat. She said that I needed it. It took forever to get our tickets and once we got our tickets.My co worker said we're ready to pay but the waitress proceeded to leave the table anyway. so we had to wait even longer for her to come back and take our tickets. We told another co-worker when we got back to the facility about what happened.He was upset and called the store. but our luck, the waitress who waited on us happened to be the manager and the owner.But we're wondering if that's even true. “My first time in Topeka, Kansas found the wind gusting into the 40’s. Once I dropped off the highway, instead of being relegated to the hotel treadmill, I was able to wander across the parking lot to the Westridge mall.

Two miles in, and a handful of laps behind me, I finally slowed my pace to a crawl and then to a stop in front of this wholesome cookie shop. What kept crossing my mind as I passed it was how vibrant and full the cases looked, in a mall that has seen better days. It was obvious someone or multiple someones were keeping this business busy!

When I stopped, I found out the “why” of that curiosity. Gayla does a little walk in business, but catering and corporate orders have kept her busy for the past 11 years!

My sugar tooth kept directing my mind to the frosted sugar cookies. As she was bagging a little luck of the Irish up, the banana crumble caught my eye and that was added to the bag as well.

A little more conversation and a picture later, and I was back to walking. I did not make it far before I had to open up the bag.

First was the banana crumble. I will never claim to know baking, other than I can consume copious amounts of cookies, but it was light and the banana was very pronounced. Would recommend trying it! One, (or two) would pare perfectly with a morning cup of coffee or tea.

Next up was the sugar cookie.

The first bite, I could feel the snap of the cookie. It surprised me a little as I am used to a soft sugar cookie but then all curiosity was lost and the frosting coated my palette….

Again I know so very little about baking and even less about frosting. But this frosting was absolutely delicious. I can say it is the best frosting I have ever tasted! Light and balanced; not too dense or too sweet, but a perfect mouth feel and taste!

If you are in Topeka, please stop by and try Gayla’s cookies! These small businesses need our support, especially in spaces like Westridge mall!”

Sadly, due to Blue not feeling well, she did not eat.
