Came on recommendation from two different locals who said this was the best restaurant in Lafayette. We were not disappointed. Reservations were needed, but the hostess was able to accommodate us by the kitchen. It worked out GREAT. Was able to see the chef, Sullivan, and his crew perform their magic on each of the dishes. Every member of the staff was very friendly - from the hostess, servers, chef, our waiter Zach, and the general manager Aaron. Just get two orders of the Roasted Oysters to start. Trust me on this one. Even the Mac and Cheese was delicious! The creme brulee was delectably perfect. Get it! If cocktails are your jam, you won't be disappointed with the selection. My only gripe was that it was very loud on a Saturday at 7 PM. Felt like it was a night club. Made conversation challenging at times. If you need to change diapers, the unisex bathrooms will have accommodations for your baby. A thoughtful touch. Will definitely return if I ever come back to Lafayette.”

“it was a very nice place & the food was delicious! my friend & i both ordered a soda . i got a brownie a la mode & she got a malt . they were both delicious but the staffing was honestly very rude . we didn’t know what we wanted as i am new to the area & never been to a place like this before. upon walking in we sit at the bar & automatically get greated by an older lady who already didnt seem like she was having a good day. workers were hollering across the restaurant talking about others . we were taking our time overlooking the whole menu before we ordered & the lady behind the bar helped recommended some things but did it in a very passive demeanor . we then ordered our things & i didn’t even receive my brownie at first , i received just a sunday . when i pointed out that i didn’t receive my brownie another lady huffed & puffed while throwing it on a plate & in the microwave . i told her not to worry about putting anything on it & i would take it like that . she slide it to me on the bar , then proceeded to talk about my friend & i very loudly . we were there maybe 30 minutes , & honestly i want to give it another try . i just didn’t appreciate the servers on shift that day”

“Small place in a strip mall. Independently owned with huge portions and delicious food. My mom and I shared a shrimp po' boy and Muffalatta baskets. Both were good. Ask if you can get a little extra olive relish if you want to only taste it. I thought it was perfect but my mom thought she'd have liked a bit more of the relish. My husband got a large catfish platter and was almost embarrassed about how many pieces he got. Sharing it for 2 people would still leave 3 or 4 pieces each. My dad got the fried pork chop and he loved it. He doesn’t have much appetite and we have to push him to eat. But he ate a whole huge pork chop and has one for tonight, too. He didn't need any encouragement to eat it. It was really good.
Enjoyed talking to the owner and ger husband is the cook. It was one of those small places that people discover great food. Zero ambiance, but who needs that when your meal is simply prepared and fills you with good flavors?”

We tried the Pork Belly Bahn Mi (which alone is such a fun, creative menu item for a place like this) and 3 portion BBQ plate. NOTHING disappointed, good LAWD. I also honestly feel like the BBQ plate is extremely fairly priced for how much high quality food you get. We tried the prime brisket, pork, and st.Louis ribs and everything was incredible. Also some of THE best corn maque choux I’ve ever had as a side. The pork belly bahn mi was also obviously as good as the pictures looked. Aside from the food, the atmosphere is incredibly stylish and comfortable, with a modern vintage look, nice spacious seating, and incredible bathrooms. The customer service was top notch too! Everyone was incredibly helpful and seemed so passionate and hard working, always staying attentive and busy. I genuinely feel so lucky to have experienced something so refreshing in so long, it’s been so rare to find a gem like this!”

“A perfect fusion of American classics and Louisiana dishes cooked over open wood-fueled flame , served up in a comfortable and modern concept. Came on recommendation from two different locals who said this was the best restaurant in Lafayette. We were not disappointed. Reservations were needed, but the hostess was able to accommodate us by the kitchen. It worked out GREAT. Was able to see the chef, Sullivan, and his crew perform their magic on each of the dishes. Every member of the staff was very friendly - from the hostess, servers, chef, our waiter Zach, and the general manager Aaron. Just get two orders of the Roasted Oysters to start. Trust me on this one. Even the Mac and Cheese was delicious! The creme brulee was delectably perfect. Get it! If cocktails are your jam, you won't be disappointed with the selection. My only gripe was that it was very loud on a Saturday at 7 PM. Felt like it was a night club. Made conversation challenging at times. If you need to change diapers, the unisex bathrooms will have accommodations for your baby. A thoughtful touch. Will definitely return if I ever come back to Lafayette.”

This place is a gem, and if there were more stores like it that cared so much about quality products and food for their customers, the world would be a better and healthier place. I went today to get some supplements, groceries and a hot breakfast, and Brian, the manager, walked me to my car with an umbrella because it’s pouring. When I go in, they greet me by name. And they beat prices of other organic foods and supplements elsewhere. Can’t ask for anything more. Thank you all who work there and keep up the good work!”

“I've been following El Hidalguense Mexican Restaurant for a while now. And decided today I wasn't going to Lafayette again without trying it. I had the Enchilada Mixta con Cecina and my wife had the Birria Tacos. Amazing food! I have a hard time describing how delicious our meals were. But, we're definitely going back! The owner was so friendly, checking on us making sure we were enjoying our food. Our server was very helpful picking out our food since it was our first visit. This is definitely a hidden gem with authentic, fresh Mexican food.”

“I took my kids and friend there on yesterday to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. After receiving our food, the waitress asked if everything was ok. I informed her that my shrimp was over cooked and was very hard to chew. She said she would inform the manager….we waited 8 minutes and no manager came. We watched him walk back and forth without ever acknowledging me. When the waitress passed back I asked her what did he say, she said oh, he said that how they cook it. Finally after 5 minutes or so he came, saw and said him self that my shrimp was overcooked and that he’ll be back. I waited and waited he never came back. I had the shrimp poboy that had a total of 5 and a half shrimp on it. It was like they took pieces of crust and stuck it between bread. My friend got up and stopped him to ask what’s going on because he never came back. He told her that I couldn’t be accommodated because I ate some it. They were all very unprofessional. I’ll never go back there. That definitely not how you handle business and the customer.”

Had a overpowering taste of roux which really made the meal unworthwhile. “it was a very nice place & the food was delicious! my friend & i both ordered a soda . i got a brownie a la mode & she got a malt . they were both delicious but the staffing was honestly very rude . we didn’t know what we wanted as i am new to the area & never been to a place like this before. upon walking in we sit at the bar & automatically get greated by an older lady who already didnt seem like she was having a good day. workers were hollering across the restaurant talking about others . we were taking our time overlooking the whole menu before we ordered & the lady behind the bar helped recommended some things but did it in a very passive demeanor . we then ordered our things & i didn’t even receive my brownie at first , i received just a sunday . when i pointed out that i didn’t receive my brownie another lady huffed & puffed while throwing it on a plate & in the microwave . i told her not to worry about putting anything on it & i would take it like that . she slide it to me on the bar , then proceeded to talk about my friend & i very loudly . we were there maybe 30 minutes , & honestly i want to give it another try . i just didn’t appreciate the servers on shift that day”
