“I've been here a few times and have not been disappointed. Every flavor I've had has been amazing.

My favorite is the key lime cupcake because it has lime curd inside, a graham cracker crust bottom, and lime zest on top. PERFECTION!

A similarly tasty cupcake is the lemon cream pie.

I also enjoyed the double chocolate flavor.

“We go here for take out quite frequently. The service is always warm and friendly and the food is delicious. We're vegan and are quite happy with the vegetarian platter. The ONLY reason for the 4 stars is because they recently switched to plastic take out containers. I really preferred the compostable containers because they did a good job of sucking up a lot of the oil.”

“I've booked this venue twice for work events (team offsites, strategy planning retreats) and have had nothing short of the best experience both times! The Sway team is extremely professional, responsive, and accommodating -- even arranging the furniture to fit all of our day's activities, and providing coolers for drinks that we brought ourselves! The location is great -- close to many restaurants for breakfast/lunch options and neighborhood parking all day. We've loved using this beautiful space and couldn't recommend it more.”

“A small food menu didn't disappoint with big flavors and lovely presentation. Service was great and the bar makes solid drinks. Prices were a little high ($9 for a side of sweet potato friend, $4.50 for regular) especially for portions size, but quality was good. This won't be a regular spot for food but I'd definitely come back to try again.”

“I’ve been coming to this restaurant for a few years, and it’s hands down the best Sichuan food around. Their Mapo tofu is my absolute favorite. One thing to note though—their cabbage side dish is “paocai,” not kimchi. They’re completely different foods from different countries, and the process of making them isn’t the same. Don’t get me wrong, I love paocai !!, but I noticed some reviews from Americans mixing the two up. Just want to clear that up so people don’t get confused.”

“EDIT: I felt its necessary to make the amendment that, although walking in without a reservation was a thing previously, we've now had multiple visits where we've stood at the counter for 2 hours never to be seated.

You can still eat the whole menu there, but its generally very crowded.

Getting reservations seems to be catered towards friends, or some type of mysterious system, as we no longer have been able to get a reservation even weeks in advance. The food is still the same.

Original Review: I can’t believe that I haven’t left a review for Ippuku; this is as close as you can get to a Tokyo alley izakaya, from the sasami raw chicken special menu (to do for), to the epic yakitori, to the massive shochu selection.

By far one of my top 5 favorite restaurants in the Bay Area, we’ve been here a good 30 times over the years and it has never once changed at all, thankfully!!! Never want it to change, it does everything so well.

Hokkaido squid, chicken oyster, chicken tartare, agadashi tofu, crab croquettes, these are some favorites.

Make a reservation if you can, but otherwise we often walk in and are seated within an hour. Fun to hang out at the bar and wait.”

The little booths are cute, but the seating area can be a little stuffy.”

“I have worked around the corner from Bench for years. I only recently got into coffee and so I've tried pretty much ever coffee shop in the near vicinity and this is by far the best latte in the area. Don't forget there is an upstairs seating area with a table and chairs.

The only thing that I would prefer is to have a couple comfortable chairs upstairs. If I could sit in a cushy chair I'd be so happy! But it's comfortable enough to be my go to spot now!”

“They have 4 bases and one can choose between either pork (Tonkotsu) or chicken (Tori Paitan). They also have the option for vegetarian ramen, but this is limited each day. What's unique is that you can have either the regular Hakata, thin noodles, or the Sapporo, medium thick wavy noodles.

You can't make reservations, but they have some seating in the clean alleyway where you can wait.

Only downside was that it took over 25 minutes for our ramen to be served, but at least the owner came to our table and apologized for the delay.”

“Why did I wait so long to discover State Flour pizza? It's amazing 🤩🤩🤩. The crust is thin and perfect, the toppings are well balanced. There's not too much dough or gooey cheese. It's great the next day too. It's now my favorite go-to pizza establishment.”

“I spent about $45…for a whole bunch of yummy stuff! It’s amazing to be able to go straight to the bakery, and also kind of dangerous. You can see some of the menu on the window outside as you wait in line (there will almost always be a line), and you can peek in and see the day’s selection of breads and pastries. Only two parties at a time fit inside to order. There’s a small parking lot in front and more parking behind. I highly recommend the seasonal focaccia pizzas! An pain epi, just yum.”

“What a gem! In the courtyard of the Anthropology Museum, you’ll find this charming oasis. Everything from the furniture, landscape, menu, and soundtrack are all thoughtfully procured. Afternoon tea consisted of 3 refreshing flavors of tea and 3 sweet dishes. The chia seed porridge was a generous portion with a delicious flavor profile as well as texture. The toasted hazelnuts added a tasty crunch. Blackberries and gooseberries were a nice palate cleanser, and the chia seed flour brownie bites were addictive! The black walnuts and coarse East Bay salt were a perfect combination! I’m thankful they don’t sell these individually otherwise I would be eating them daily. In bulk.Not only was the meal unique and delicious, we also learned some Ohlone history and words as well as heard some lovely songs and spoken word that were pre-recorded. It’s such a nice experience and so much more than just food and drinks!”

Beautiful Palestinian cafe. They offer halal chicken sandwiches and I only wish they would offer halal turkey and beef. But the quality of the chicken in the sandwiches is tasty. The cafe drinks are really special and highly recommend it. And the simplicity of their croissant flavors like the zataar and cheese croissant is really tasty. They have lots of Kunafa style desserts here too.”

“I got the hojicha and it was hands-down the BEST hojicha I’ve ever tried in the bay!!! The hojicha was so rich and my drink was sweetened perfectly—not too sweet, which didn’t steal the thunder away from the hojicha’s notes and flavor! I do want to disclose that they did take over an hour for my drink to be ready, BUT I went for their soft opening weekend, so that may be why many people were there (there were around 25 orders ahead of mine). They whisk the hojicha and ceremonial matcha right in front of you, which was a blast to see. The ambience was great! I’d definitely go again at a time where there aren’t as many customers there.

Update: my friend went a few weeks after me, and their wait is still just as long (about 40-50 minutes). Definitely place your order, explore downtown Berkeley, then come back for your drink. There aren’t a lot of seating options available in the tea bar.”

“The burger here is delicious! I got a double cheese burger. Simple yet flavorful from fresh ingredients. It reminds me of in-n-out where the burger doesn't have to go fancy in order to be good. At the same time, it tastes different, probably it is a smash burger so it is more crispy? Anyway, it is definitely one of the places I would love to come back for more. I wanna try the kale salad but my friend forgot to order T_T.”

“It's nice to see a Chicha San Chen in the East Bay! The first time I had it was when I was traveling in South Cal, and then they opened their first North Cal location in South Bay!

We ordered the Bubble Milk and the Dong Ding Oolong Milk Tea with boba.

I really like their Dong Ding Oolong tea, it's very fragrant and tastes really smooth! Thet boba was large, chewy sweet, and has a great texture.”

“Not the best matcha I ever had, but better than most other matcha places in the area. The strawberry matcha was very good, but could have used some more strawberry puree in it. I wanted the double matcha latte, but it wasn't in stock. *sad* Atmosphere seemed good for studying, but didn't stay. Service was very quick and ordered on snack pass. Will be back when I'm in the area.”
