“We spent some time in the French Quarter and decided to try a couple different spots to find the best sandwich we could. The fried shrimp poboy from Verti Marte blew all of the competition out of the water. The place feels unapologetically authentic, and the staff was friendly enough to give us some recommendations on where to get a good muffuletta sandwich (they were out of the bread) and what their favorite beignet spots were. High Grace NOLA 733 St Peter, New Orleans Bar • $

“A very nice escape from the Bourbon St madness. This place somehow manages to be a dive bar, and trendy at the same time. It's a friendly, intimate environment, with comfortable lounge furniture tucked away in a few corners, and a beautiful courtyard out back. I know a few other reviews mention the bathrooms, and they are certainly quirky; however, for me it was in more of a made you smile type way. They were extremely dark, only lighted by a pink neon sign. There is no mirror, so don't go in expected to tidy up your appearance. I have to assume these were conscious decisions made by whoever designed/decorated the place. What better way to say we don't care what you look like, and neither should you than to give customers no mirror or light to check their appearance in. There isn't much signage out front, so it'd be easy to miss when the doors are close. They just have a small hanging sign that says something along the lines of "last stop before the tourist traps" which I found to be both clever and true. I wouldn't say the drinks are cheap, but the quality is excellent and they are relatively affordable for what you'd be asked to pay at most any other bar near Bourbon. The bartender was extremely nice, and the drinks were finished quickly. I didn't get to spend nearly as much time here as I would have liked because we had a busy afternoon ahead, but High Grace will certainly top the lists of bars I stop off in next time I'm near the French Quarter.”

“It’s rare to find any diamond, much rarer to find a true diamond in the rough. This is a dive bar but it is a true diamond. It looks like a dive bar inside and out. It serves cold beer, alcohol and the only food item is Boiled Mudbugs. You know this place is serious about their crawfish when as your eyes adjust to the darkness you see a huge 100 gallon chest of warm mud critters for self service on one end of the bar and then long tables with a big hole in the middle and paper towel rolls everywhere. The crayfish are big and fresh caught. They are not overcooked or mushy. Cooked with real fresh pepper cayenne peppers, red potatoes, sweet corn, garlic heads, sausage, onions and blend of spices. Unlike most boils there wasn’t the over use gritty cayenne spice feel on the bugs. They were spiced just not so hot it blocks the flavors. Now those of you who think that the heavy use of dry cayenne is the only way we’ll think again. Oh by the way remember to wash your hands before going to the bathroom or rubbing your eyes.I’ve had home cooked boiled crawfish for over 50 years. I’ve found good mudbugs in small family owned restaurants near the waters edge on the bayou, in Asian eateries, backyard parties and many a eateries. But this place was the absolute best. The place is apparently known by local professional chefs and food workers , also its received great reviews by TV cooking shows and even liked by Americas Foodies.”

Takeout Restaurants

“I stopped here on the way home from New Orleans, only 2 miles off I-10, so not really out of the way. We have a long drive, so I selected a steamed char sui bun, Pate Chaud, meat pie, Crawfish pie, coconut macaroons, mochi, and a pineapple bar. Omg, the Crawfish pie! It had so much filling, Crawfish, bamboo shoots, scallions, and seasonings I'm not sure of, but it was very spicy and delicious! I'm trying to find a recipe for it in my Vietnamese cooking group, because Google turned up nothing. The Pate Chaud was delicious too, but not as much filling as I wanted. The coconut macaroons were amazing, and surprisingly made without sweetened condensed milk, but you would never know that except for the ingredient list. The pineapple bar was not too sweet, as it looked, perfect for me. The mochi were delicious, with the all familiar chew. Have two more pies to sample, but I have no doubt they will be delicious too!”

“From the moment you step into Chemin à la Mer, you're enveloped in an atmosphere of refined elegance. The restaurant's stunning riverfront location provides breathtaking views of the Mississippi River, setting the stage for an unforgettable dining experience. But the true star of Chemin à la Mer is its exquisite cuisine. The menu features a delightful array of French-inspired dishes, each prepared with meticulous attention to detail and bursting with flavor. My personal favorite was the quiche, which is undoubtedly the best I've ever tasted. The buttery crust, the velvety custard, and the perfectly cooked bacon harmonized in a symphony of textures and flavors that left me speechless. Our server, Mandy, was an absolute delight. Her warm smile, attentive service, and genuine enthusiasm for the restaurant's offerings made us feel welcomed and valued. She expertly guided us through the menu, providing insightful recommendations and ensuring that our every need was met with utmost care. The other breakfast items we sampled were equally impressive. The omelets were fluffy and flavorful, the pancakes were light and airy, and the fresh fruit was impeccably ripe and juicy. Each dish was a testament to the chef's culinary expertise and commitment to using only the freshest, highest-quality ingredients. To top off our exceptional dining experience, our daughter received the utmost attention from Mandy. With her engaging personality and genuine love for children, Mandy made our daughter feel special and entertained throughout our meal. Emeril's 800 Tchoupitoulas St, New Orleans American • $$$$

“I’ve never reviewed my greatest restaurant ever but I will start now. In October my wife and I went to Emeril in New Orleans. Not an easy reservation but worth the time, effort and long trip from our home in Hawaii. Our experience was great. . We knew that there were plans to shut down Emeril for a total redesign from top to bottom. We waited for the exact date to try to get a reservation and luckily secured one. We had absolutely no idea what to expect. The experience we had proved that the “new Emeril “ is the best restaurant we’ve ever been to. I will not describe each dish since it would take up too many words but know that each dish was outstanding. Now I will explain why Emeril is #1 in the eyes of both my wife and myself. Online you will see that there are two Tasting Menus, no a La carte so we were at least prepared for what we were going to eat. We were not prepared for the following total mind bending and culinary experience. When entering Emeril you are greeted with a true Aloha greeting. We sat at the gorgeous bar since we were early and had a Vieux Care our new go to cocktail. The mixologist continued with the Aloha Spirit and made an exceptional Vieux. The bar area was awesome. In a very short time we were greeted by a hostess who escorted us to the brand new dining room. It totally blew our minds. Twenty or less tables with a huge space between them. You almost feel that you are the only guests there. The table we sat at had a large banquette that just added a new dimension to comfort. Large gorgeous pillows supported our backs. Almost directly in front of us was a huge glass enclosed kitchen. This was pure culinary theatre. Almost immediately a chef came to our table and asked us if we would like to see the inside of the kitchen. We didn’t bat an eye and followed him into the most gorgeous well thought out kitchen we’ve ever seen. The chef gave us a brief description of the kitchen, introduced us to the staff and the entire team offered up a special hello. We both felt like the greatest VIP’s. He then showed us to a small table next to us that had two champagne flutes with what he said was a rhubarb juice. Also on a plate was a cube of some unbelievable jellied concoction to showcase the ingredients. Back to our table and the party began. The two tasting menus were explained, one Classic and the other Seasonal. Then the Amuse Bouches started arriving. We expected only one or two. Nope, two sets, one group of cold, the the other warm. Each one was as great as the seven small main dishes. The beauty of the entire experience was that we both left feeling sated, never full. The service was impeccable. Never hovering but always there and totally knowledgeable about every dish and that includes ingredients. The sommelier was the antithesis of what many sommelier’s are. Being Wine Educators and Consultants we really appreciated his knowledge and communication skills as well as his passion towards wine. We had a dedicated service team who I would love to take with us to other great but not perfect restaurants. Jason Burse, the Assistant General Manager made the whole experience into a perfect culinary tour de force. This is why we both feel that Emeril is the Best Restaurant we’ve ever eaten at. Although expensive, it did not break the bank. Can’t wait to return next October.”

We were here for a volleyball tournament at the convention center and she too had had daughters who played volleyball in the past and she was just so genuinely happy for us to be here for this. We ate here almost everyday and this place is just the cutest, super clean, friendliest staff place ever!!! I seriously can't recommend this cafe enough!!! My husband couldn't even get over how nice all the staff are in here. The crepes are delicious!!! As well as all the danish treats!!! The almond croissant was one of our favorites as well as the chicken Alfredo mushroom crepe!!! 5/5 stars easily!!!”

“We were looking for a non-touristy spot after seeing an amazing jazz performance at Preservation Hall. The bartender prior to the performance recommended a few places including The Grapevine. We sat at the bar and were greeting immediately and the bartender Michael was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. They start out every meal with individually warmed baguettes and specialty whipped butter, that night it was cracked pepper and truffle. We shared a couple items off of the specials (an artichoke soup that was to die for and a roasted marrow bone topped with Creole style crawfish tails) and then the caprese which may seem simple but was done to perfection with a NOLA flair topped with seafood. The price point was also amazing for both food and alcohol. This was definitely our most favorite eatery experience while in NOLA.”

“The service was great. It had a nice bar and a peaceful feeling. We ordered pork belly, pork shoulder, octopus, beet salad, roti bread, spaghetti, and rice. The pork belly was by far the best dish. The pork melted in my mouth and tasted like heaven. The pork shoulder was great. The inside was cooked well and the sauce was okay. The only issue I had with the sauce was that it was too sweet. The octopus was also good because it had a nice and crispy outside and soft juicy inside. Definitely one of their top dishes. The best salad was refreshing and on point. The rice had a nice buttery garlic seasoning and the bread was nice and warm. The spaghetti was a little bit spicy but the flavors and taste were excellent. Deserts- chocolate Pana cotta with a strawberry jelly was brilliant. House made ice cream- blueberry rose, passion fruit, and banana fudge rum. The blueberry rose was my favorite as it had bold flavors and brilliant taste. The others are good but could be better. I definitely recommend going here and will come back!”

“On our first night in New Orleans we found this cute restaurant/bar place. We arrived quite late on a Saturday (nearly 10pm) but we were seated quickly even though the restaurant was very busy. The atmosphere is quite electric and very lively, and staff were attentive and friendly. We sat at the chef’s table so we could see the kitchen staff cooking which was also an added bonus. It’s also lgbtq friendly too and I loved that ? now the food, the buttermilk ceviche was on point, good tanginess and sweet and savoury. We didn’t enjoy the gumbo as it tasted a bit burnt. Tartar felt lacking a bit of seasoning but the concept of the dish was nice. The highlight of the dinner was the blackened fish and steak - they were both cooked to perfection and melt in your mouth. The potatoes side on the steak is buttery, crunchy and comforting and you want another five of them. This is a great local gem.P.S. we didn’t know there was a burlesque dancer on the night we went. “Best sushi in the city. Now mind you, I grew up in San Francisco and have lived in Los Angeles for over 25 years. I KNOW good Pacific quality sushi. This town blows for sushi. Gulf seafood is amazing! Pacific seafood is laughable. If you, like me, know and lust after something better... this is your answer. Ordered online through their website, tip, payment. Done. Walked in like a boss, said my name and walked out. Perfect pickup experience. I had places to be. They respect that. First time eating here so I danced around on the menu. My lady is diabetic, so rice free rolls are our litmus test. Can't hide behind that rice shield, dawg. They have two rice free rolls. Now I'm a gentleman so I take less than half the rolls we split, just so I can woo her with, "Please! This one is all yours!" I look like a boss. That's a pro tip, guys. She always does that delicate flower move of, "I'm so stuffed! Take the rest!" You know how it goes. Not this time amigo! I had two of six and she's going after that fourth like it's Mardi Gras. The other was a rice paper thing with a cucumber hat and a touch of spice... had it's own special subtly sweet citrus dipping sauce. Insane! Talk about balance. Speaking of... tempura appetizer. Yeah, you already know what it looks and tastes like just by saying those words, right? Nope! A slice of lemon in the dipping sauce. Mind. F'ing. Blown. Seriously, why are you still reading this and not going there right now to eat their food!? I work ten minutes away. I'm seriously making this place a regular weekly lunch thing. If they aren't yelling my name, like Norm in Cheers, as I walk in for lunch, I'm taking that as a personal failure on my part. “I visit Freddie's Chicken N' Waffles in July 2022 . My hotel was around the corner and I walked past and they were closing. The next morning I got up early. I had the fried strawberry pancake. This place is a hiding gem best breakfast in town. Never ever tasted great breakfast like this. I only eat breakfast at Freddie's Chicken N Waffles my entire stay. The wait time was slow and the waiter was busy but had a great attitude. Food is cooked at the time you ordered it and was worth the wait. My friend had the fried chicken and waffles and she said that it was good. My favorite is the strawberry fried pancake delicious!!! If I every return back to NO I would visit again. My own relatives who live in NO did not even know about this place!”

Cafe Du Monde 800 Decatur St, New Orleans Cafe • $

“This shop is an iconic shop of NOLA. It sells bakery items and beverages, nonetheless Beignets and Chicory Coffee are its main attractions. I had these food items inside the shop and in a conference at New Orleans as well. The shop was very crowded and I had to stand in a queue. The Beignets and Chicory Coffee of Cafe Du Monde are so popular that I had to stand in a queue while in conference center to have the food. Price is affordable.”

“First time in NOLA, had to hit up Cafe Du Monde for their beignets! It was packed around 5, but the wait was only like 20 mins (way better than I thought). Once we had a table, the service was lightning-fast, and our order was on the table in 10 minutes. Definitely a must-try!”

Antoine's Restaurant 713 St Louis St, New Orleans French • $$$

“Having heard this was the birthplace of the Rockefeller oysters, I had to eat here. The ambiance was relaxing and felt private. All the staff were friendly.I started out with the three types of oysters they offered, all of which were good in their own way. The original were bold, the charbroiled were more mild, and the Bienville were different with the peppers and pimento but still full of flavor. For a drink, I had the Rose French 75. While this was delicious, my only complaint is the value of the drink for the amount given. I would say that lacked the most in terms of price for the entire meal.I choose the redfish on the half shell as a main course. The flavors were full and rich while the food was cooked to perfection. Plenty of food in terms of size. This was a unique place to eat and would definitely visit again.”

Brennan's 417 Royal St, New Orleans Cajun/Creole • $$$

“It's worth every penny. The food and service were great. I had the hussadre eggs benedict, which was absolutely delicious. The coconut lime soda is fantastic as well! My party also enjoyed the shrimp creole and spring sformato. Both said their meal was delicious, though the sformato was very light and left my friend wanting more. Luckily, the famous banana foster was filling enough to finish the job.”

Stanford's Restaurant Antoine's Restaurant, 713 Street Louis Street, New Orleans Steak House • $$$

“Our servers, Jesse and Latisha, were wonderful and made us feel very special. They were attentive and warm and welcoming. We had the shrimp Romoulade and the crab appetizers, ,which were excellent. My husbands shrimp creole was also very good. The side of fresh asparagus was perfect my cooked. Unfortunately the Pompano Pnochatrain was a disappointment. It was supposed to be grilled with abutter poached lump crab and a white wine reduction. It was very dry and tough with no sign of any sauce. The baked Alaska was not flamed table side and had minimal signs of having been flambéed in the kitchen. Overall an uneven experience but the evening was definitely saved by our two servers.”

“Antoine was a fantastic server ...polite, courteous, attentive, and extremely handsome. oh and the food was good too. I ordered the soup of the day which was the crab chowder - really decadent but not too rich. Dinner was a coffee rubbed filet cooked to perfection. I was dining alone but seated close to two different couples who did not know each other but struck up a conversation due to their proximity and I enjoyed their conversation as one couple was Swedish and the other was from AL but had Swedish roots. it was a really cool place to eat since I would call it fine dining but a comfortable feel. 10/10. Ask for Antoine.”

“Fantastic evening at an institution. Food was top tier from the French 75s through to the baked Alaska dessert. Crab cake / Shrimp Arnaud starters were solid whilst the mains (veal medallions in a mushrooom sauce / quail in a strawberry gaatrique) were exceptional. Service was top tier with a special shoutout to Travis who made our evening.”

Meril 424 Girod St, New Orleans New American • $$

“Meril, Meril how I love you This is one of our favorite spots to go for date night or just meeting some friends for dinner and delicious cocktails. Service is always top-notch. We usually have a main waiter and then someone assisting with the table. But don't take that as a stuffy, uppity place to be, it's very casual and nice to have servers taking care of the table all throughout the meals. Apps: we decided to make a meal out of appetizers, and we kind of went overboard. Definitely small plates but big enough to share with leftovers if you do it right. We decided to order appetizers and make that our meal. We chose the Bacon Braised Collard Greens from the daily specials. We also chose Smoked Fish Dip, Crispy Cod Sliders, Deviled Eggs, Korean Fried Chicken Wings and Pad Thai Cauliflower For cocktails we started with English Turn(grapefruit but not sour), Tchoup(cucumber deliciousness) and Albariño(smooth white wine). All so good! It was also our 11 year anniversary and they surprised us with some cotton candy and a sparkler! Perfection!”

Ruth's Chris Steak House 525 Fulton St, New Orleans Steak House • $$$$

“Still a top choice. This was our opportunity to go to where Ruth's Chris started.Guilliano gave excellent service and is very knowledgeable about the menu and the wines.Food was excellent as usual. Filet and bone-in-filet were perfect. Crimini mushrooms were great accompaniment. Sauce from the mushrooms was an excellent topper for the steaks. Mashed potatoes were fine but didn't shine compared to rest of main courses. Flan was outstanding. The only negative was that it was quite chilly inside, but RC could not control that since the restaurant itself was just onside a larger hotel. So if you go and don't like being cold, bring a jacket or wrap to wear while eating.”
