“Honestly one of the best pizza crusts I've ever had. I had the focaccia spring special pizza - with squash blossoms and burrata. The Pear Basil Gimlet is one of the best mocktails I've ever had. The brussels are dark brown and crispy and melty. Plus - LOTS of gluten free options!
I rarely have a meal where every single part of it is delicious. This place is a treat, I'd highly recommend it.”
“The food inside is delicious and healthy portions. The service here is great too!”

“I was there yesterday and had the Killer BLAT I didn't know if I would like it but turns out I loved it and I will return it was so good. It's a great place that you have to try.”
“Roses is is a great choice if you are looking for a really special restaurant for a private party. Great food and great atmosphere. Try the Japanese Old Fashion cocktail.”
“Wonderful healthy vibrant food that is well presented…especially for takeout. 🩷. The person that took my order was super friendly and efficient. The food came out quickly! Loved the lemony green juice and organic chicken. The tahini cookies are giant and tasty but would be slightly better with a bit more salt in the dough or a bit of flake salt on the top. Also tasted my friend’s soup, and it was super yummy 😋 too! Note, this is a takeaway place with a few outdoor tables. Other than wanting more salt in my cookie, I loved everything.”

“Yes, the pizza! Grateful for extra mushrooms instead of sausage!
But rarely do I review a salad: the apple endive salad with frozen/sliced/dehydrated prosciutto…MUAAA! The apples were perfectly sliced thin and the tarragon vinaigrette (not overdressed) with the blue cheese crumble and pistachios were proportioned and balanced to taste not visuals. Will try to recreate at home but next time, I’m…not…sharing!! 😂
Pizza is best straight out of the oven there and the service was actually service. ALL the staff were kind and patient.
[The only thing about the atmosphere was that as cute as the chairs are, bags slip off so please add hooks nearby.]”
“I've been many times and always enjoy the food. My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary today, so in my reservation request I asked if they could play our song after we got there. Without saying anything to the staff about it when we arrived, the song came on a little after we were seated. We both teared up a bit; it surprised me how something so simple could feel so special. Thank you Tane staff. Also, always get the cheesecake; take it to go if you're full.”

“Lexie's Frozen Custard has some of the nicest customer service and best dessert in Berkeley. I've been a regular here for about a year now, and just realized I never wrote a review! When I fell outside their store, they offered me an ice pack. Today they gave me two cherries in my sundae, so I have sworn allegiance to them forever. My favorite flavor of the day that has ever happened is banana caramel, but I also have enjoyed most of their flavors of the day. If I don't like their flavor of the day, I get a brownie sundae or a lemon raspberry sundae. Anyway, very tasty, highly recommended.”
“Best bakery in the area and early morning lines are not just hype. Amazing bakery, get there early as they run out of everything quickly and lines form before they even open at 7am. Best croissant in the bag area, incredible and picturesque baguettes and levain. Parking can be tricky”
“Had a wonderful experience at EL TINY CAFE. The café had a cozy, welcoming vibe, and the coffee and food were fresh and flavorful. The staff was friendly and attentive, making the visit even more enjoyable. Highly recommend for a relaxed and charming coffee stop!”
“My wife found Mary Kate’s baking before she found a permanent spot, and I have been following her from pop up to this location. I tell everyone about sesame, it is my favorite bakery. The food is fresh, seasonal, organic, creative, and expertly crafted. The people working there are all happy and wonderful, it really is a magical little place. I personally love their cookies, pavlova, galette de rois, frangipane tart, and pumpkin pie. The menu is always changing so be sure to go often!”
“A great ramen choice!
Not a huge menu with lots of combos, which I like. Simple decor and fast service (which is how it ought to be!)
Definitely return.”
“we made a reservation ahead of time and ordered the prix fixe brunch, and they customized the menu to accommodate our dietary restrictions (pescatarian). the food was delicious, the atmosphere was so sweet, and the staff was incredibly thoughtful. 100% would go back! (personal faves: iced ube espresso, lava eggs, smoked sturgeon dip, prawn and fish stew, beignet with ube condensed milk and warm soy milk and bean drink)”

“Espresso is consistently amazing, never bitter, never burnt. The two owner brothers bake everything themselves overnight!! So every morning you’re greeted with cases full of fresh, beautifully crafted pastries.
Don’t miss the coffee noisette, the horseshoe pastry and the petite four cookies.
Get there early – their croissants are truly exceptional and often sell out! Thank you, guys!”

“Was visiting the Bay Area for BTS concert and found this place randomly and wow, glad I found this place. Probably one of the best thing we had in the Bay Area and we went to a lot of places! The Char Siu was so good! Must try when in the area! Owner was also really nice and friendly!”

“Exceptional neopolotan style pizza. The sauce is light, but held a depth of flavor that lingers in the aftermath. The crust is near perfection. Please don't call it burnt. it's not. Burnt implies mistake. THAT crust is no mistake. I would highly recommend you sit down and eat it right out of the oven. Plus, the outdoor seating in a beautiful rose garden is a nice touch.”
“Go. To. Tarocco. You. Will. Love. It. Everything is healthy and delicious, but in an indulgent way that doesn't compromise on flavor. The owner could not be friendlier, or more welcoming and gracious. The chef clearly cooks with heart and soul and lots of experience. The atmosphere is sunny, inviting and beautiful. And the daily salads are always a home run. Because the salads are already composed, and you order at the counter, service is immediate. They also have delicious coffee and tea beverages, as well as a daily agua fresca and some really delicious-looking desserts (one a day). I'm vegan, and they have yet to offer vegan desserts, but they always have at least 3 vegan salads available. This is my go-to spot to bring out-of-towners or to go with a girlfriend for a lovely lunch in a beautiful environment. [NOTE: Only open for lunch on weekdays. Weekends and evenings, they're busy doing private events.]”
“Both hands up for this wonderful coffee place I happened to stumble upon, right outside the skirts of Downtown Berkeley. They're located right on the intersection of MLK and University, right behind the Indian restaurant.
This coffee place is honestly a little bit small, so please proceed with caution at all costs. But it really makes you feel cozy at home. They do have upstairs seating, but rather really limited. It will be full at times, and at times, not at all. It depends on the time that you go.
They have a wide assortment of sweet and savory pastries available as well. I got their ham & cheese scone, as well as their speciality drink, their banana cream iced coffee. I love how balanced their iced coffee is with the banana cream, which surprisingly, is made with ACTUAL banana puree made from actual bananas.
The barista who made my drink was very nice and very chill, and served it rather quick. That's what's up!
If you're looking for a locally-owned coffee shop right here in Berkeley, look no further than Bench Coffee! Trust me, it will be a trip worth it :)”
“Gem of a neighborhood coffee shop! Excellent coffee and very friendly staff. Only downside is that seating is limited, it’s always so crowded and hard to snag a table. It’s become my new favorite to walk to in the morning especially if you live in the elmwood/college ave area”
“You enter through a walkway full of displays. Then a beautiful patio, up a ramp where you can grab a menu and wait in line. You place your order at the register and get a number. We found a table, grabbed ourselves water and waited for food to come out as its made. Luckily we were sharing plates so it didn’t matter how long between dishes.”
“Fresh ingredients, friendly staff, and delicious food and veggie options!”

“I enjoy this restaurant very much. The food is excellent and fresh. it’s served hot every time. The servers can speed up with taking orders but otherwise, they are o.k. The restaurant is ok. The seating is too close for me but I get it. There’s No parking. It’s excellent.”
“How am I the first person to review this place?? Laura is one of the best in the industry. For those that don't know, she was the right arm for Toni Gemignani, arguably the most famous pizza maker on the planet, through a whole bunch of his concepts since the beginning of both of their careers. She opened her own place in Berkeley and it's great to see her continuing to thrive at the level she did with Tony. Also the food is really good. The sleeper here might be the pasta which gets as much love as the pizzas.”
“Yesterday I had the pleasure of walking into this family owned establishment, The environment was clean, and the people were very kind. The menu was exceptional with great prices. I got the chicken Marcella, the naan, and the salmon which was the daily special. The chicken Masala was perfectly spiced. I got the mild because I can't eat spicy food. I dipped the naan in it and it tasted perfect. The naan was big and fresh and its own separate bag, so I was able to take it home and munch on it later now the salmon was delicious. It was super crispy and juicy on the inside, and the seasoning was complementary to the fish. it was wonderful to be able to talk to the Chef and get to know the people that cooked my food. The chef that's been working there. He's on the establishment for a while and he's been cooking for over 40 years. He also told me that he is from New York, which definitely shows in his food because this Indian Pakistani restaurant is definitely authentic. I will drive an hour and a half to come back here again. Definitely would recommend them for Catering or a nice dinner date.”
“Great izakaya experience for skewers that mainly highlight chicken! Don’t recommend walking in without a reservation—we waited an hour on a Sunday night & although you can get lucky with the bar seating, the booths are part of the ambiance! Everything is charcoal grilled so it will be smokey in there.
Great experience for date nights except skewers are on the pricey side (about $12 for a lacarte). The omakase set is usually pretty solid but if you want the more specialty like chicken skin, it’s better to order separately. I liked the chicken neck skewer best for the flavor and the fattiness! Didn’t like the shizo breast. The squidink fried rice is a great side as well as the agedashi tofu. Really solid place for the level of specialty and ambiance they’ve maintained throughout the years!”
“Arvin and Puja prepare authentic Nepalese Food that is delicious. My favorites are the Palak Panner, Mixed Vegetable, and Paneer Tikamasala as I am vegetarian. The Nan and Roti are to die for. I love the down to earth homie atmosphere and friendly service. It you want good quality wholesome food in a relaxed and friendly setting, this is your place. I highly recommend Mount Everest to anyone.”
“Wow! The best chicken shawarma in years! Incredibly tasty and delicious chicken. The hummus was notably delicious - flavorful and rich. And the rice was perfectly seasoned and cooked well. Great assortment of Turkish delight desserts. I'll be going back soon for sure. Cool outdoor patio too.”
“The 10 piece nigiri set is an amazing deal. I added an uni nigiri and was happy I did. Itani was recommended to me by a friend and I had it bookmarked - so glad I did! I was in the area and this was the perfect quick and delicious meal I needed. If I lived closer, I’d be here all the time. I highly recommend giving it a try!”
“Make reservations if you want to sit outside in the garden. Also check the front for prepacked take away items for sale. I especially love the hand made squid (jerky like) very tasty. Tried a few things definitely want to come back n try more.”
“Loved the decor and the vibe, great place to hang out with friends. The food was absolutely delicious! The flavors were spot on.If you're in the area, this place is a must-try!”

“Easily my favorite restaurant in Berkeley, super warm service by the waitress. The food is as authentic as you can get, their dhaal tastes just like how it would taste back home in South Asia. Overall a homey experience both with the food and service. Can’t wait to be back!”
“So glad I tried this place out. It was similar to Shangrila Buddhist Cafe in Albany except I couldn’t get oil-free or salt-free. I ordered the sauces on the side and ate. Soup. Medium plate w/salad, collards, garbanzo beans, sweet and regular potatoes and a “rice burger.” Dessert was chocolate pie. Yummy. Great service. Updated from previous review on 2026-03-18”
“This restaurant is out of the fray of crazy Berkeley traffic, in a quaint brick building off the beaten track. Parking was easy and we walked into a warm atmosphere with high ceilings, long tables with comfortable chairs and professional service. The food was exquisitely presented, and the taste of the food was intricate. It was the best experience that I have ever had at a Thai restaurant. I highly recommend it!”
Takeout Restaurants
“Vegan (& Gluten-free) flavors! I loved the pluot, the dark chocolate, and the walnut (that has no pieces of nuts in it, which is really helpful to those like me who can’t have much fiber). Additionally, I found all three flavors more refreshing than (sickeningly) heavy, and the flavors 🤩 🎇—like the grand finale of a fireworks show for the taste buds. I’ve only had about a spoonful of each so far but am in love 😍🤤😋. I didn’t go to the shop, someone brought me some, so I’m not able to give my opinion on the actual shop. From what I heard, though, it wasn’t as crazy as many ice cream places are on hot weekends! 😊”

“My dinner partner and I both agree that the physical atmosphere, and food were excellent. The place was almost empty on a Sunday night yet the service was mediocre. We had to keep tracking down the waiter for our hot water for the tea, box for take away, etc. Inattentive. The staff also seemed unhappy or dissatisfied with their jobs. The prices have gone up so don’t feel we got value for our money”
“Deeeelish! My favorite thing here is the chicken tikka roll, the pratha is so good and it’s very saucy and the perfect amount of spice. I also got the garlic masala fries and samosa and a mango lassi, all very good. Also the folks who work at wrap and roll are the best, so friendly. Highly recommend!”
“I went at 8:10PM (20 minutes before closing), and they treated me so kindly and let me stay and eat past the closing time. I had a great experience because not only was the food delicious, so was the service, ambiance, and treatment. The food is 100% made with love and you can taste it.”

“Shoutout to Mollie and the team at Cellarmaker Berkeley; we recently held our wedding reception and it was lovely! Cool ambience, great beers, plentiful delicious food. Mollie was flexible and easy to work with - food things, accessibility things, slide shows, music, bringing cake and decorations. It was made easy for us and everyone had a great time. Thank you!”
“As Thai’s might say, the food here is aroi mak (VERY delicious). The the vibe and atmosphere brings such an authentic and familiar feel. I would certainly return to try more items and bring friends because what is thai food without sharing the experience?”
“This was the best Mexican food I’ve had in almost 15 years. I’m going to be visiting a lot. Good drinks and great food.”

“I recently visited Roaming Bean Coffee, an outdoor gem that exceeded all my expectations! My drink was perfectly balanced with rich, smooth flavor and delightful frothy top. The staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive. Overall, Roaming Bean Coffee is a fantastic spot for coffee lovers looking for tranquil outdoor setting!”
“Absolutely loved this place. The ambiance was warm and inviting, the service was attentive without being overbearing, and every dish was beautifully presented and full of flavor. You can tell they really care about quality ingredients. Perfect spot for a date night or special occasion. Will definitely be back”
“What a delightful place to stop and grab a delicious empanada or a boba drink. I just love the chicken adobo empanadas. The pastry is fresh, flaky, and crispy. The lightly spicy chicken and potato filling is tender and savory. So good. Be sure and try the house-made sweet chili sauce as well. For dessert, try the mango cheese cake empanada. It is tangy, fruity, rich with cream cheese and topped with a sugar-glazed crust. The prices are very affordable too!”

“My sister and I just had a couple of Cali Alley burgers delivery and these things are good! Next time I'm in Berkeley, I will definately order again.”

Cheap Eats
“There were three in my party. We ducked in here to take a break from the cold rain. We ordered a chai, a golden/turmeric chai, and a caffé latté, all with oat milk. It’s our first try of oat milk. We all liked it a lot. The foam on my golden chai was lovely. I’d reorder it anytime. I tried my mate’s latté with oat milk, I can recommend it. The pastries we ordered were all worth the consumption. I’m so glad there was one pretzel cheese bun left. It was delicious even though it wasn’t warm. I highly recommend them. We also ordered a quiche, a chocolate croissant, and an almond pastry. They were all superb. The almond pastry which was super light and flaky tasted like baklava more so than an almond filling. I liked the vibe here. So often I want to grab my order and split, not here. I felt fine taking refuge from the outside environs. The staff were sweet regardless of their spoken English being nearly impossible to understand. It was cool assuming they were part of the refugee program. It felt good being a patron there and the inspired conversation it led to. I am sure my party was surprised I was already knowledgeable about the topic on current refugees. That made our café and conversation time only that much more enjoyable.”
“i’ve come here a few times already and the drink quality is excellent: flavorful and not overly sweet. i’m very picky about the texture and chew of the boba and cha thai tea def gets it right. had their mango sticky rice too, v good as well. cant wait to try their vanilla ube toast and other beverages. highly recommend!”

“Oh how I miss Anchalee! Beautiful cozy decor and the food is amazing. I have great memories of this place. Time to make my way back to enjoy.”
“love this place. Food is fresh and delicious. Owner is also very hospitable and always greets us with a warm 😃”

“Excellent!!! I recently had lunch there, and we couldn't stop praising the service and food.”
“Service was lovely, the atmosphere was charming and beautiful dried flower arrangements hanging and flower vibes. Love the wooden tables and most importantly the food was outstanding. I will definitely be back and share this new gem with friends and family. 10 out of 10 ding dong they nailed it!”
“It was our first time, as it was recommended by a friend that came with us. Service is wonderful. Friendly, polite, explained everything, and we had great hot pot. My kids liked it too. We plan on coming back.”
“Solid tapas and nice selection of cocktails and wine. Tapas menu is limited but good, though heavier on fried items.
Paella options look great on menu but did not have the chance to try this time.”
“We are new to the area/California from NY we were delighted to find pizza as amazing as home! Friendly owner and staff.”
“Lovely lounge-y feel to this lovely wine bar. Great selection of wines, easy street parking right on University or neighborhood. Wonderful place to spend an evening with friends.”
“Super delicious 👍 I never eat Japan food super good like this before.”
“everyone in there is very friendly and the desserts are excellent. My compliments to Martha Stewart. I love the lemon cookies. All of the lemon products are excellent to me as well as the Dubai chocolate cookie really good”
“Criss was our amazing waiter! Friendly and fast service. The ambience was welcoming and buzzing on a Saturday evening. We’ve tried different Peruvian restaurants and have also been to Peru a few times so this place was a gem to find. The Lomo Saltado was the perfect nostalgic dish. I know where you revisit. Thank you!”
“This place is incredible in food, service, and atmosphere. Such amazing quality fish and delicious dishes.
My favorite was their hand rolls and the hirame usuzukuri (like a carpaccio). Even their green tea was made well, not bitter at all - so smooth. I dont think you could get anything wrong here.”
“Cha-Ya is very good traditional Japanese food that is all vegan. All of their food is excellent from the sushi to the udon to the various small plate offerings. The ingredients are so fresh and high quality and the food is so comforting and delicious. Prices are quite reasonable, but be aware that it is cash or venmo only. There is rarely a wait for a table, and the service is quick and friendly. It's got a homey/old school vibe and isn't a chic modern place, but that's a good match to the very homey traditional food. Highly recommend if you want a big meal that will leave you feeling great at the end.”
“So love this place! Food extremely fresh. First recommended and ordered by another, I sought it out again for lunch. Delightful. Took unused veggies and rice home which was great the next day.”
“We had had Aloo Matter and Chicken Dal which were both amazing but the Himalayan Chili Potato appetizer was another level. All of it so flavorful and satisfying. Highly recommend.”
“I don't go to Julia's for lunch very often but had lunch there with two good friends recently. The food was excellent (echoed by my two friends) and the atmosphere was relaxed and relatively quiet even the the restaurant was quite busy. I'll be back for lunch.”
“The food at the restaurant is absolutely delicious. The service is fantastic and the ambiance is great as well. I truly enjoy coming here with my cousin for dinner.”
“Authentic noodle bar in Berkeley.
Try to be as early as they open, or else you will be in the queue.
Ribs noodle has a huge portion, enough for two people; 24-hour stew is very tasty.
5/5”

“Great music venue, small feel with top notch sound and production, connected to a great ale house with good food, full bar and super professional staff.”
“Good food good service. Tea leaf salad tasted great. Noodle dish was a little bit mushy but the flavor was good. Service was fast and friendly. Dining room med expectations. Convenient curbside parking outside.”

“This is a classic place that I hadn’t been to since I was in college. It hasn’t changed a bit. The decor is really cool and the food is very good. Prices are a little bit high, considering what you get. Service was good, but not great. I was surprised at how long it took for the food to get there. The servers and staff were very nice. The place is a bit off the beaten path, but if you’re in the area, it’s definitely worth checking out.”
“Top notch drinks and personalities behind the bar, we will back. My only regret is that I waited this long to go there.”
“Highly recommend the garlic naan and the malai kofta! Both were delicious. However, the various chaats weren't very distinguishable from one another, I would eat there again none the less.”
“Authentic fresh ingredients/spices, excellent customer services and now my fav thai restaurant ! If you haven’t tried it do so soon😋”
“What a surprise! I stopped going to this local restaurant pre pandemic because the whole experience had gone downhill, both in house and to go.
Now many years later I really wanted szechuan food and decided to give them another try.
What a change for the better!
The order was ready on time.
The containers were bulging with food.
the cumin lamb was no longer 90%peppers.
The chow fun was not swimming in oil.
The food was delicious and plentiful.
We will certainly be back and I'm so delightfully surprised in this time when restaurants are feeling the pinch. Everything was so different and just what I wanted.”
“It’s the best Restaurant in town came with Family and we had a great time! Food was great and drinks 🍹 we all loved the dessert as well! Just amazing service and food! My Favorite for sure! 2914 College Ave Berkeley Ca”
“Great new spot for causal beer and food right at the edge of UCB campus. Very convenient stop to refresh, especially for bicyclists crisscrossing the berkeley hills.”
“Solid food, gorgeous ambience.
Came for a late dinner on a Wednesday evening and this place was packed! We were seated within 5 minutes of arriving at 8pm.
To start, we ordered the watermelon salad to share. The presntation was gorgeous and colorful, was a refreshing appetizer to get us started.
For beverages, I had a pour of the fieldworks Belgian and my friend had a mango lassi. Both beverages were served in bespoke glassware and were delicious.
For mains, we ordered the butter chicken and lamb curry (both medium spicy) to share, with a side of naan and two sides of rice. The butter chicken was rich and creamy, while the curry lamb had a nice balance of flavor and heat. Both were enhanced by the side of garlic naan.
Overall, a solid meal and nice ambience.”
“Need to let go? Relax? Animate? Subjugate those anxious waves of uncertainty?
Kinda Izakaya is more, it's the kind.
Just don't get too loud, it's most impolite in this kinda place.”
“A wonderful addition to the Westbrae neighborhood! We've been watching and waiting and yesterday my husband and I discovered Adega Azul is finally open. Inviting atmosphere, friendly owner, a thoughtfully curated collection of wines for sale. And a charming place for an afternoon glass of rosé and savory Brazilian pastries.”
“We were in the area visiting relatives and it was our anniversary, so we wanted to find somewhere nice, and the reviews were right. It's a beautiful building, the service by Tony, our waiter, was wonderful, and the food was delicious. I started with the Escarole Salad, which had apples, grapes and more, it was a nice start. My wife had the shrimp cocktail, which came with 8 shrimp (she loved it). My entree was the Rack of Lamb, with 2 double-chops, sauteed kale and navy beans. It was very good, albeit a little more well-done than I prefer. My wife had the Caprese Pappardelle Pasta, which was delicious. And we finished with the poached pear dessert (which came with a candle for our anniversary). The prices were very reasonable for the quality.”
“The 10 piece nigiri set is an amazing deal. I added an uni nigiri and was happy I did. Itani was recommended to me by a friend and I had it bookmarked - so glad I did! “i been to this restaurant many times al the people who work there make you feel like home the food always delicious always . they very fast with everything and they clean and they always serving the food more than enough. i love this restaurant i highly recommended them for anybody’s looking to have a great Chinese food”
“Excellent selection of tea and a comfortable environment for sipping and tasting. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly, and are able to explain the teas.”
“Love this brewery! Not only do they make delicious beer and food but also help the environment, animals, LGBT, and people in need. The service was excellent and atmosphere comfortable.”
“Authentic Japanese cuisine and warm environment near downtown Berkeley. Servers are always welcoming and friendly. I love how fast the food is well prepared and served at Musashi. My friends and I often come here during lunch hours, and although the restaurant is packed, we never felt less attention or being rushed. Also the noodles are very delicious!”
“Five stars. The food and service here are impeccable. New favorite neighborhood restaurant.”
“Definitely recommend this place! first time here and I can't wait to come back next time I'm in Berkeley!! Food is delicious!”
“Excellent foods, friendly staffs! We really love to have dinner here~ Absolutely, I will visit again when I come back to Berkeley!”
“The atmosphere was absolutely relaxing with an inviting appeal. The wines were unique and very smooth. For those who think they do not like wine, I challenge you to try these wines”
“Most legit North Indian food in all of Bay Area. Don’t even think just go here. Saag tastes just like Indian homemade saag! Everything is made fresh so expect a little wait if you want perfect naans.”
“Pro - Delicious place. Good service. local community breakfast place.
- Customers had their dog on the table outside - on the table, all four paws, testicles just plopped up there next to the food. Wait staff saw this and did not ask them to take their dog off the table.”
“This place is awesome. Our new favorite place. Fresh and clean, Our waitress was amazing and friendly, chefs are excellent. Nothing bad to say, totally a five star experience. Thank you for a great time. See you soon.”
“i’ come from marin to eat here with friends today i had 2 friends for lunch and we got 1buffet and 2 meals . i asked the young lady if i got a buffet could i take it out with my meal . i guess she misunderstood me and preferred to throw it away as to let me take it home i won’t return again. although food is good all the ethiopian restaurants nearby are good”
“This place is one of the best whisky bars I've ever been to. They have a phenomenal selection across styles and ages, including some rare releases from closed down distilleries, or some vintage bottles you can enjoy as cocktails. The staff are super welcoming. The bar is relaxed and if you didn't look at the drinks closely, you might think it's a dive bar (in the best possible way). Definite recommend for a chance to try some special drinks.”
“Food is great ! Service is so so . They did forget a dish and were a bit slow even after the happy hour rush ended . They brought the bill before asking whether we wanted dessert ( we did ) this time and the last time we came . Still I’d go back as the food is too good!”
“My favorite is Su Kho Thai...A hot and sour soup base with rice noodles, ground pork, pork, crispies. Great for a cold day like today.”
“My experience at Passione Caffè in their gorgeous two-story, well-decorated café at 91 Shattuck Square was simply marvelous. The staff was friendly, quick, and accommodating and the food, drinks, and desserts were delicious! I highly recommend Passione Caffè to those looking for a quick and yummy lunch (or breakfast/brunch everyday), to snack and study, or for an authentic Italian coffee. Don’t miss out on the great happy hour/aperativo deals between 4-7PM! It almost goes without mentioning, but Passione Caffè is absolutely true to its slogan: “A corner of Italy in Berkeley.” From the food and drink to the atmosphere and the service, this is the only truly Italian café I have found in Berkeley! And that comes from over a year of experience living and traveling in Italy! Besides the beautiful architecture and interior design of Passione Caffè—not to mention its convenient location next to Downtown Berkeley BART—I would like to point out some highlights on the menu. The pastas are all made with homemade, organic noodles and made-to-order sauces. The pasta dishes are so fresh and authentic! The spaghetti with meatballs, their only Americanized dish, is to die for! The pizzas also are also made with home-made dough and gluten-free options are offered. Try one with fresh prosciutto, mozzarella, and arugula! The fresh panini with Italian meats and cheeses round out the lunch menu. It is possible to have a filling lunch for $7-15, which is definitely reasonably priced by Berkeley standards! A serious final highlight was the artisanal gelato, made in-house by the Italian co-owner, Eleanora Cercatore. There are 12 flavors, weekly made with gluten-free options, that are displayed on a beautiful rotating wheel. The gelato is spectacularly tasty—I cannot recommend it highly enough! For your time, money, and fine Italian bites and drinks, I cannot recommend a Berkeley café more highly than Passione Caffè! Please pay them a visit soon—you won’t be disappointed!”
“Oceanview Diner was a delightful dining experience from start to finish. I ordered the potato pancakes served with sour cream, house-made applesauce, and a sausage, and every bite was flavorful and satisfying. I also had the chance to sample my husband’s pancakes and my daughter’s potato salad, and everything across the table was consistently delicious.
The coffee was fresh, hot, and the perfect complement to the meal. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable experience with comforting, well-prepared food. I would happily rate Oceanview Diner an 8 out of 10.”
“Forgot to take pictures of the food but my friend and I split our sandwiches. Half buttermilk fried chicken and half crab salad on sourdough. Both worth it. Tea after. Really lovely.”
“Two of our party (not me) had the chef's tasting menu. It was an amazing value--an incredible amount and variety of food, and they thought it was really high quality. I had a chicken curry that was delicious and satisfying. The staff were very nice but maybe a little overworked.”
“Yummy Chinese food! Potstickers are made fresh
Vegetarian options: vegetarian options available
Dietary restrictions: vegetarian options available, but it is an asian restaurant so dont expect a whole bunch of options for dietary restrictions like Kosher, vegan, nut free etc
Parking: located on the corner of a street, a couple of parking spots available
Kid-friendliness: kid friendly but a lot of spicy dishes
Wheelchair accessibility: not wheelchair accessible, need to go up stairs”
“Meski, the prior owner, passed away unexpectedly in March 2019. The restaurant is now being successfully run by her adult son. They have expanded the outdoor dining area and it is really cute. Yesterday, they were celebrating an Ethiopian baptism. All the women looked so good in their Habesha dresses. Stop by to eat and support the restaurant!”

“This is the perfect neighborhood Italian place like in Manhattan or SanFrancisco. Absolutely delicious, we’ll-crafted Italian food that elevates the ingredients. My husband and I split a pizza and each had a salad plus a bottle of wine. Pizza amazing, wines amazing, salads lovely. Been wondering why Berkeley didn’t have places like this.”

“Loveliest cafe with wonderful espresso drinks and best bagel dishes in town. My favorites are the cardamom Rose latte and the brusco bagel (thin mortadella slices with honey drizzle and pepperoncini). Dominick and Andie are lovely. Dog friendly outdoor seating but limited and in the shade, so might be a little cold so bring light jacket”
“I was so happy to have this restaurant open up a location in Berkeley. I've been to the original in Bellevue Seattle as well as their other locations in Seattle and here in the Bay Area since I enjoy their food so much. However, I think the Berkeley restaurant needs to work on the consistency of their dishes as compared to their other locations. I ordered the Mala Spicy Noodles last night and it was half lettuce instead of noodles with lettuce garnish. Fortunately, I asked and they graciously re-fired another order for me with less lettuce but when it arrived, they had the lettuce correct but now it also had less mala spice. I'll check again in a few weeks and will gladly change this review to a 5 star rating if they have the consistency fixed.”
“Finally got to try this spot and can say that the matcha quality is very good! The hojicha as well was toasty and nutty (aside from the sesame that blended with it so well). The service was also very pleasant and helpful. Definitely will stop by to try other matcha and hojicha types.”
“From what I can tell, this is one of the best ice cream and sweet shops in Berkeley! It's hidden in Crave Subs, but it has a lot of appeal in its own right.
The stand is decorated with waffle-cone lattice and decorative ice cream cones attached to the ceiling. It has bright and attractive signs and electronic arms whirl the ice cream right in front of you. Not only is the storefront adorable, but it's also located in the cartoon-themed Crave Subs. You can tell that the working area is kept very clean.
The menu is actually pretty extensive. It's a place that sells croffles, crepes, scoops of flavored gelato, milkshakes, and coffee. The gelato here is incredible!
The prices are entirely what I would expect, and the quality is very high. Everything they serve is beautiful, tasty, and carefully made! It appeals to children and adults alike.
The service is great! They are friendly and careful attentive with their work.
I definitely want to go back!”
“OG Burger on Solano is absolutely worth the stop. I asked the gentleman behind the counter what he would order for himself, and he recommended the double bulgogi burger. I told him to make it the way he would for himself, and it came out dialed in.
What stood out is that it was not a standard American smashburger. Instead of the usual profile, it leaned into Korean fusion flavors. The bulgogi added a deep, savory sweetness that worked perfectly with the crispy smashed patties. It felt intentional and different in a good way.
He gave me a light sauce on the side that paired extremely well. I did not catch the name, but it had a vinaigrette style tang that balanced the richness of the meat and brought everything together.
I also ordered the loaded fries, and they were just as strong. As far as smashburger spots go, this one separates itself by doing something different and doing it well. I would definitely have it again.”
