August

August 301 Tchoupitoulas St, New Orleans American • $$$$

“The next time you’re in NO, make a reservation at August! You’ll thank us, I promise. 🤤 FIVE STAR REVIEW ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The meal started out with a “gift from the chef.” A savory leek custard, topped with pumpkin mousse and a sprinkle of sweet & salty crunch, presented in a perfectly carved eggshell. We were given spoon bread as well, which was the lightest, airiest and creamiest corn muffin ever to cross my lips. The sommelier told us that the secret ingredient was sour cream. I guess the secret is out now! 😉 Our sommelier suggested Pinot Noir. Monty chose Belle Glos Las Alturas. Let’s just say that we started shopping for it online immediately after the first taste. It has a fuller body than a typical Pinot Noir, so smooth and juicy. Such a perfect pairing. 🤌🏼 Monty had the pecan-smoked venison tartare with celery root and mountain rose apple. The flavors and textures were out of this world! We combined a few bites of the tartare with a bit of spoon bread. Omg, I’ll say it again: Out. Of. This. World. 💥 I ordered the gnocchi "black and blue" with black truffles, jumbo lump crab and parmesan. Tender, yet slightly firm, with a delicate, pillowy texture, but the truffle took it to a whole ‘nuther level! They gnocchi’d it out of the park with this one. For dinner we shared duck three ways with Bayou Cora grits, foie gras, confit, chestnut mushrooms and cherry bounce. Y’all, I’ve had foie gras, but never before like this. An intensely flavorful silky texture that literally bursts on your tongue. It was absolutely divine. Dessert was hummingbird cake with creole cheesecake, bruleed banana and pineapple ice cream. I just don’t know what to say except the pastry chef knows exactly what she is doing!! This was definitely meal to remember with the love of my life, my favorite dining companion, and my partner in culinary escapades. I love our journey of flavorful adventures, seasoned with spice and a love that mirrors the diversity of a well-crafted menu. Here’s to more delicious chapters in our love story, baby, where every bite is a beautiful reminder of the incredible life we share! Cheers!! 🥂🥂”

We never waited for anything. The Hot Crab Claws and Foie Gras Torte for appetizers were divine. I ordered the Duck Cassoulet and my husband had the visiting fish, Sea Bass over Yakamein. While the fish was excellent, the Duck ruled the table. Thanks to the Servers and Kitchen for a wonderful meal. We'll be back.”

24 Hour Restaurants

“Le Bon Temps is one of those places where you have an amazing experience one night and a not so great one the next time you go. The crowd is a varied one, from college kids to retiree, there is no shortage of variety in clientele. That is nice to see, the generations partying together. There are two pool tables that have been upgraded recently so they are much better to play on. They have the 3 slots to play, a jukebox, and a back room that hosts some pretty big names and some not so known ones. There is a cute little patio off the side to have a smoke and the decor is classic NOLA dive. The bathrooms are generally clean, as is the bar area, unless there is a big crowd for a show and they are swamped that is. But a little mess is to be expected in that situation.
The staff is like the guests, varied. Sometimes you get the perfect bartender and other times it's like they forgot they were at work. I mean, I'm all for having fun with your patrons but when you see customers walk in the bar and still stay outside for another 10 minutes while they wait inside, that's just rude. It doesn't take that long to smoke a cig. But when the bartender finally did come in, she still didn't give us people that just got there service, she went and talked to people that were already there with a drink, looked at the security cameras and joked about the people, right about the time we were set to walk out (18 minutes waiting) she finally came over and asked if we needed a drink. It was quite discouraging. Thankfully it isn't like that often. Most of the bartenders are on point and friendly. They also make a good drink, like a real drink, not overloaded with booze, but a good tasting mix and the prices are really good for NOLA. It is your neighborhood bar, not Bourbon Street crazy.”

“First Aunt Tiki’s experience was about 15 years ago. This year my wife let me bring the kids. My 23 year old and I went to see my Cowboys get beat on Christmas Eve. Love this bar. New and fantastic every time I sneak in. Unfortunately after I left, in the rain, slip sliding over to Bourbon St. I eventually slipped my best slip and fractured my fibula, skinned my knees and scabbed up my forehead. I’m paying for it now but it was an epic adventure. Love all of you there but I’m gonna give the old liver a break for a while. 10 out of 10 if you’re cool!”

Great food at a good price. The burger was great; the tots are amazing. I unfortunately missed the crawfish boil and will be back for it in the future.
My bartender was awesome and friendly (didn't get the name but green hair at the time).
The atmosphere was great. It's definitely a locals bar and I felt very welcome as a second time tourist who wants to get away from Bourbon Street but still enjoy the French Quarters.
It was good enough that I went back again twice and was recognized and welcomed each time.”

“February 19th, 2020. Husband's 50th. Wanted a Mardi Gras birthday. He went to 'Bead & Boobs' on Bourbon whilst my short self wandered in this bar mid afternoon. I found a bar stool, kicked back and let Houla introduce me to a lovely spiced rum which became my companion the rest of the evening. The bar itself was clean, bathrooms were kept up and had a slappin playlist pumping. I watched drunken drama come in and out: a young couple saddled up and in mid drink the boyfriend realized he was surrounded by gays so he bolted, a gentleman asked me to babysit his darling Yorkie while he drained his snake, but the best was watching Houla superhero himself over the bar to rescue a very intoxicated woman from a total creep. That was legend! Enjoyed my 7 hour stay. Everyone needs to be here!!”

“Excellent M Club lounge in a not-so-excellent hotel. The lounge really is a redeeming factor for the hotel. Wonderful complimentary breakfast every morning, a wide spread of snacks in the evening (although variety could be better), and friendly staff.

The only thing I would change is to turn down the music. The lounge should be a place to catch some respite and peace from the chaos of the hotel lobby. Loud music spoils the atmosphere. Also, maybe play some classical music instead of non-stop 90's pop and R&B.”

“Hi everyone, my post might be a little different in that it's not even about the food. This review is about the gratitude that I have for this place. I can't express enough gratitude to Costera Restaurant for turning our Christmas around in the most wonderful way. when my wife lost her precious chain and pendant during our visit. it felt like our holiday spirit was fading fast, however the staff at Costera went above and beyond to help us. Not only did they assist us in searching for the lost item, but they showed genuine kindness and concern for our situation. Their efforts led to the recovery of our chain and pendant, and in that moment, they truly became our holiday heroes. The atmosphere in the restaurant is warm and inviting, and the food is simply delightful, which only adds to the reason we will always cherish the memory of our time spent there. Thank you Costera, not just for providing a fine dining experience but for having incredible compassion and support when we needed it most. You have won us over and we will continue to dine in this great establishment and recommend everyone we know. Thank you!!”

Sat at the bar and had the pleasure of being served by Charlie, who was super attentive and made the experience even better. I ordered the wedge salad, crab cake, and pork belly. The wedge salad and crab cake were my favorites — the crab cake had no filler and was full of flavor. I also learned they give free bread with meals, which I didn’t get to try this time but definitely plan to on my next visit. Portions are generous, so come hungry! Everything was a very large size, and I left feeling satisfied. Can’t wait to go back and try the bread pudding next time. “I drove AT NIGHT. WITH AN ASTIGMATISM. all the way from DA PARISH to THE CITY for this bread pudding. Took a wrong turn down a one-way like a true local menace, didn’t even put my dentures in, and would absolutely do it again because this bread pudding had me seeing God, my ancestors, and Louis Armstrong all at once. Soft. Sweet. Soaked just right. Illegal in at least three states. Now let’s talk about the REAL MVP: the waitress/bartender with the cute lipstick. Ma’am was serving looks, vibes, and hospitality like she was born behind that bar during Jazz Fest. Sweet as pralines, sharp as a Saints comeback, and made the whole place feel like your favorite cousin’s house—if your cousin knew how to pour a drink and flirt professionally. I am currently eating this bread pudding right next to the establishment like a raccoon with a treasure, specifically to keep my husband from getting a bite. He had 45 whole minutes to get out of bed, put on clothes, and drive me here before closing—and chose violence (sleep). That’s on him. I chose dessert. 10/10. Worth the drive, the risk, the one-way street, the bare gums, and the marital pettiness. New Orleans at its finest.”

“Denied access to a legally allowed service dog without any interest in making accommodation. The dog tucked immediately under the table where she is supposed to be and the server (maybe owner) came over immediately asking for paperwork, which isn't required in the United States. Any paperwork provided is typically bought off the internet. Don't waste your time or money here. Sharing their intolerance on every platform. Also just found out that the person who told us we couldn't eat there laughed and tried to joke with the rest of our party and offer free drinks after the fact like that was going to fix splitting our dinner party.”

Pigeon & Whale 4525 Freret St Ste 107, New Orleans Restaurant • $$$

“My brother loves what I call "Bougie" restaurants so when he made a reservation for six of us this past Saturday (French Quarter Festival weekend), I was sure the cuisine would be a hard no for me as I usually stick to the basics. However, I am so glad I was wrong! Walking up to restaurant does not prepare you for the cool nautical vibe you experience upon entry. It's not what I call "themey" but rather low key with subtle hints directed at the name and menu. The food was inventive, visually appealing and bursting with intentional flavors. We ordered various appetizers including the Charbroiled Mussels, Taramasalata, Ishmael Fries, Miso Blue Crab Salad, Eggplant Doughnuts as well as Bread Service (do not pass it up). Our entrees included Swordfish Schnitzel, Lobster Roll and several Squid Ink Pastas. We were stuffed but we weren't about to pass up the lemon cheesecake dessert. To say that the lemons looked too real to eat is an understatement, but we overcame and devoured all six. The whole experience was "Chef's Kiss" for all six of our party. We will be back as some of us live in NOLA and some visit often. Just an FYI, we were unaware that seating in the bar area meant literally sitting at the bar so make sure you request a table when making reservations.”

AGUASANTA 8312 Oak St, New Orleans Restaurant • $$$

“I'm 50+ years old. Have been to countless restaurants in the US and mexico (Cancun 12 times) and the meal I had tonight was the best I've ever had. The cocktails were great. The service was great. Didn't wait long because somehow we were the only 2 people in the place. It was a Tuesday, and we did have early reservations. (4:30) Not complaining cuz I was able to lie to the wife and tell her I booked the entire restaurant for her. (Yes, she knew I was joking) Now, the food was amazing. I already knew what I was ordering but saw the menu of small plates that wasn't on the menu online and decided to try those after eating a couple of the appetizers. Enjoyed every single thing I tried and after the wife tossed in the towel I still went for the Cantonese fried rice. I thought I was done eating until I was told what was in the dessert. Well worth the stomach cramps I now have as I write this review. Happily people start arriving as we were leaving. I strongly suggest to anyone who spent the time to read all my gibberish and go to this restaurant.........................FYI, this is the first time I've ever felt like I needed to write a review.”

“If every table, every night, in each of Antoines 17 dining rooms, orders the 2-2-2, and then at least one person at each table also orders a half dozen of one of their favorite oysters from the 2-2-2, how long until oysters become extinct?

Mr. B's Bistro 201 Royal St, New Orleans Cajun/Creole • $$$

“If there were a gold standard for hospitality, it would be JC, our waiter at Mr. B’s Bistro. We brought a group of dear friends along this time—and JC made each of us feel genuinely part of the Mr. B’s family. We’ve been dining here since 1979, and somehow JC has only grown even more remarkable with time. The food, of course, is exquisite. We started with spring rolls and crabcakes, and, naturally, the freshly baked warm French bread with butter. Truffle fries for the table were a decadent prelude to the main event. Several of us savored the filet—perfect with garlic rounds and sautéed spinach. The snapper, as always, was sublime. The gumbo and barbecue shrimp are quintessential New Orleans specialties—so iconic that I even try my hand at the shrimp at home using the recipe from the Mr. B’s Bistro cookbook. Desserts were equally delightful: the bread pudding, salted caramel chocolate cake, and, of course, the classic profiteroles. Cocktails were spot on, and the red wine we chose from their extensive list paired beautifully with the meal. Nestled on Royal Street in the heart of the French Quarter, Mr. B’s Bistro is a treasure, and JC is its beating heart. Fifty years in, and we still can’t imagine going anywhere else. Dining here is less a meal than a tradition—and like a fine red wine—or even their unforgettable barbecue shrimp—JC only gets better with time.”

We had the creole pasta, firecrackers, shrimp. We also had a dish named"taste of new orleans". During our visit, we were fortunate enough to have a young man as our waiter. His name was Dante. I believe it may actually have been his first night working. A very nice, pleasant young man who worked really hard to make sure that our night was perfect. I must say it was so good.
