Uchi

“I would like to respectfully start with; I’ve been to Uchi multiple times over the years and will never forget my first experience (which will always be the best in my mind.) That being said — tonight might have been the closest to first I’ve ever had. Chance, our server was attentive, knowledgeable, easy going, brought some of the best plates when we asked “bring us what you like/anything you think we missed” literally 12/10 would recommend. Ask for Chance, he knows his shiiiiiiii* and made our night absolutely amazing and something we will never forget!”

Franklin Barbecue 900 E 11th St, Austin Barbecue • $$

“Just completed a tour of the Central Texas Barbecue Scene. Visited Snow's BBQ-Lexington, Louie Mueller-Taylor, Kreus Market, Smitty's and Black's-Lockhart, The Salt Lick- Driftwood and Franklin's in Austin. It was great seeing the venues and the family history at these historic sites. I visited Franklin's in the past and felt it was the best brisket I had ever eaten in my life. I am a skeptic when it comes to famous barbecue joints. I must say that Franklin's BBQ was far superior to all of the restaurants I visited with no one even a close second. Aaron's attention to detail from the service, choice of briskets, the cook, the wrap, the holding and even the slicing of the final product is evident in every aspect of his trade. I was lucky enough to run into him at the restaurant and he happily talked BBQ with me. Franklin's may not have the long history of muti-generational BBQ in Central Texas, but he has figured it all out at a level that I have yet to see equaled by the best venues in the country. This is a bucket list restaurant for those who really enjoy BBQ. It is well worth the wait in line”

Estância Brazilian Steakhouse 10000 Research Blvd Suite B, Austin Brazilian • $$$

“Last night, my wife and I had the pleasure of dining at Estancia Brazilian Steakhouse, and from start to finish, it was an outstanding experience. While the food certainly lived up to expectations, it was the exceptional service—especially from Jerfer and David—that truly made our evening memorable.

From the moment we arrived, both Jerfer and David made us feel welcomed and taken care of. They were attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable about the menu, and genuinely enthusiastic about ensuring we had a great time. Their timing was impeccable, and they were always nearby when we needed anything, yet never overbearing.

The classic Brazilian steakhouse experience—endless cuts of perfectly grilled meat, brought straight to the table—was delicious, but it's that high level of hospitality that elevated the night. It's not often you encounter staff who go out of their way to make sure everything is perfect, and both Jerfer and David did just that.

My wife and I left full, happy, and already planning our next visit. If you're looking for not only great food but also top-tier service, Estancia is the place—and if you're lucky enough to have Jerfer and David as your servers, you're in for a fantastic night”

“Best taco of my life! I’ve been keto for the last week or so, and I was really craving a taco. The owner said that she also has been keto before and suggested that instead of making a taco with a tortilla she could make it with cheese. I thought what the heck, I love cheese, so let’s give it a shot. She wrapped it up and told me I hope you enjoy. I had a full on mouthgasm. I told her I don’t think I ever wanna eat tacos with a regular tortilla again. This place knows how to make an amazing taco. Highly recommend!”

Ling Kitchen 8423 Research Blvd, Austin Chinese • $$$$

“We chose Ling Kitchen to celebrate a birthday. It was a dining experience that we will not forget. The staff were easy to communicate with and facilitate a food allergy, prior to arrival. Once you arrive, they will let you into a gated parking lot in the back. You will be greeted by the staff and shown to the front of the building where you will be received with champagne and tea. The dining room is one large family table directly in the kitchen.

The hosts will guide you through an exquisite 9 course tasting menu. The first 5 courses had a heavy seafood focus. Of these courses, the highlights were the seafood spread on top of a fried taro and the dumplings which had a delicious chicken filing accompanied by seafood. Moving on to the meat courses. The got better and better. The Peking Duck 2 ways that you turned into a bao slider was very good. The beef was cooked to perfection. It had a slightly sweet sauce, with a Thai basil pesto, and jellied fish and fried potato for texture. The main dishes concluded with our favorite of the night. It was a pork belly recipe that had been passed down through the family. The sauce was savory, salty, and sweet. The dish was accompanied by fried garlic and onions and a delicious black garlic leaf. The gold sheet on top was an added touch of elegance. The 5 small desserts that finished the meal were good, but nothing we would seek out again. This truly is one of the best dining experiences in Austin.”

Tip: After you complete your order you get a number, if you forget it swipe your card it will remember who you are. One of the other good features is, it will hold your coffee until you claim it. So if you have to step away, come back type in your number and Waalaa!! Your coffees waiting. I ordered a Carmel Macchiato Latte and boy😳 they did not on the EXPRESSO😣...Very 💪 Strong. I had the bacon cheeseburger with everything on it. Kids did love the fries. Just being honest, because what else is a review for, right?. However, the service was very quick, especially given how busy it seemed to constantly be. They had great sweet tea and the butterscotch shake hit the spot on a hot day. As for the atmosphere? I like how it hasn't changed much in 80 years so nostalgia is always a win for me and the prices weren't bad if compared to Whataburger up the way.”

The chef and staff were great company, telling fun stories and laughing with all of us. “For our 101st 'cue stop in Texas, we stopped by this food truck on a Saturday morning. It was not at all busy, in sharp contrast to several of the other outlets in the court. We laid out $43.40 to purchase 2 biscuits with brisket and smoked strawberry jam. We added hash browns to each order ( 2 wedges per order). Although the biscuit was quite dry, the brisket was well prepared, and the smoked strawberry jam a real treat. But no plastic utensils were supplied, so we ended up scooping the jam up with our fingers. Bring your own utensils with you if you choose to visit! We're glad we came, but the price point struck us as very, very high for what we received-- too high for our wallets to absorb a second time.”

“In Austin for the Thanksgiving holiday and this spot is a favorite of my brothers. Just a quick jaunt got us to this little spot with a lot of character, but let's talk about why we're all here, the food. Per my brother you can gauge a good restaurant/bar by how good (if they serve it) their sweet potato fries are and these are a knockout (basically the opposite of a Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson match) and the only dancing that's done is with the fries and their Sriracha Mayo as they wait to enter your mouth hole. Their main burger: The Buffalo Bastrop Burger (as pictured) is a delectable journey from ground sirloin city to the tang of the buffalo then to the bite of the bluest of the cheeses which creates the thrill of the ride releasing a satisfaction guaranteed with no need for a warranty. The Mac n Cheese hits you right in the fun bags with its creamy goodness (think Velveeta esq texture), flavor profile, and extra melted cheese saying, "Hey! You have to get through me first!!" and daggumit I will!! Great spot, great food, you shant be disappointed!!”

At the times I've gone, the menu was Texas themed, with drinks created to represent different places in Texas, along with accompanying illustrations. The cocktails were all presented beautifully, and some cocktails even have an interactive element served with them. The food is largely bar snacks - a bar mix, flatbread with dip, charcuterie, etc etc but it was all very good. I highly recommend the trio of tartlettes to end your night out on a sweet note. On top of all this, the staff on both of my visits have been wonderful, attentive, and knowledgeable about everything on the menu. The vibe was wonderful: lively, yet still easy to have a good conversation. The staff were super friendly and genuinely excited, explaining the new brunch dishes with a sparkle in their eyes.

The dishes were unique and absolutely delicious. Our standouts:
• Sabich Benedict Eggs — a multilayered, crispy flavor composition.
• Falafel Scotch Eggs — the best falafel ever: juicy yet crisp, served with three fantastic dips.
• Baklava — honestly the best we’ve ever had: fresh, crisp, and moist, bursting with pistachio flavor.
• Orange Blossom Buns — wow, such a multidimensional flavor experience.

We enjoyed everything with a perfectly selected Italian rosé sparkling wine — delightfully fruity yet wonderfully dry.

We had a gorgeous time and will definitely be back soon!”

Steiner Ranch Steakhouse 5424 Steiner Ranch Blvd, Austin Steak House • $$$

“I recently celebrated a special occasion with a party of 10 at Steiner Ranch Steakhouse. From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable. Our waiter, William, was incredible—attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. He made sure we had everything we needed and went above and beyond to ensure our dining experience was top-notch. The food was nothing short of spectacular. Each entree was cooked to perfection; I had the Steak Diana and my husband had the Fried Elk and both of our entrees were incredibly delicious. We also had several of their appetizers and desserts, all were delicious. We were also pleasantly surprised by how quickly our meals arrived—only about 30 minutes after we ordered for a party of 10 on a Friday night! The large portions were more than enough to satisfy everyone, and I don’t think a single person at our table managed to finish their plate. Even though we couldn’t see Lake Travis due to it being late at night, the low lighting of the restaurant created a warm and intimate atmosphere. Their menus were easy to read, even in the low lighting, as they light up upon being opened. We were seated at the back of the restaurant and the floor-to-ceiling windows showcased the stunning lights of the Hill Country. We had a reservation for 7 PM and were seated right on time, which is always appreciated. Steiner Ranch Steakhouse has definitely earned its five stars, and I can’t wait to return for another amazing meal. Highly recommend!”

“Considering that I'm a vegetarian and this is (obviously) a very meat-y restaurant, this was a very good experience. Staff were friendly and welcoming, the decor is elegant, the semi-outdoor seating was pleasantly breezy on a hot day (I could do without the huge TVs, but that's me). I simply wanted to get a quick drink with an old friend and we chose Carve purely because of its location. We arrived during their happy hour (which starts at 3:00). We ordered a couple of tasty cocktails and an order of the cheesy cauliflower sticks -- delicious! The happy hour prices certainly made me happy, and the charming waiter checked back in at sensible intervals and remained good humored and attentive even when it must have become obvious that we were not going to be ordering more. I noticed that the menu includes some attractive vegetarian/vegan options and will bear Carve in mind for family celebration meals where there are carnivores as well as vegetarians to feed. My only complaint, if you can call it that, is that they failed to include the tip I thought I'd added to the credit card slip and I realized when I checked my account that I hadn't left a tip at all -- apologies if that was my fault!!”
