“I would like to respectfully start with; I’ve been to Uchi multiple times over the years and will never forget my first experience (which will always be the best in my mind.) That being said — tonight might have been the closest to first I’ve ever had. Chance, our server was attentive, knowledgeable, easy going, brought some of the best plates when we asked “bring us what you like/anything you think we missed” literally 12/10 would recommend. Ask for Chance, he knows his shiiiiiiii* and made our night absolutely amazing and something we will never forget!”

Franklin Barbecue 900 E 11th St, Austin Barbecue • $$

“Just completed a tour of the Central Texas Barbecue Scene. Visited Snow's BBQ-Lexington, Louie Mueller-Taylor, Kreus Market, Smitty's and Black's-Lockhart, The Salt Lick- Driftwood and Franklin's in Austin. It was great seeing the venues and the family history at these historic sites. I visited Franklin's in the past and felt it was the best brisket I had ever eaten in my life. I am a skeptic when it comes to famous barbecue joints. I must say that Franklin's BBQ was far superior to all of the restaurants I visited with no one even a close second. Aaron's attention to detail from the service, choice of briskets, the cook, the wrap, the holding and even the slicing of the final product is evident in every aspect of his trade. I was lucky enough to run into him at the restaurant and he happily talked BBQ with me. Franklin's may not have the long history of muti-generational BBQ in Central Texas, but he has figured it all out at a level that I have yet to see equaled by the best venues in the country. This is a bucket list restaurant for those who really enjoy BBQ. It is well worth the wait in line”

Craft Omakase 4400 N Lamar Blvd Suite 102, Austin Sushi • $$$$

“Exceptional omakase. One of my favorite restaurants in Austin. The chef is extremely personable and kind. Made me feel incredible comfortable throughout the whole experience. My girlfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed this experience. The food itself was absolutely delicious. Every single nigiri was exceptional, with wonderful rice texture. The fish itself was always excellent quality and the sauces lightly coated on each fish were excellently paired with the flavor profile of the fish itself. Drinks: I did the sake pairing which had two options, a standard pairing for $80 iirc, and prestige pairing for $100. I did the pairing for $100. It was outstanding. My friend opted to do the prestige wine pairing ($110); she thoroughly enjoyed that pairing, as well. After the 22 courses, we went back the bar/lounge area and opted to finish our night with a glass of or Born Gold sake. The service team was incredible throughout the meal. Their presence was very low-key, but they were informative and really kind. Will absolutely be returning in the future.”

“Wow, absolutely the best Chinese cuisine experience of my life.
From the first bite to the last, everything was exceptional: the food, the creativity, the flawless execution, the warm service, and the authentic kitchen atmosphere. The intimate setting made it feel even more special, and the staff were incredibly welcoming.

We started with a stunning goldfish-shaped dumpling soup (almost too beautiful to eat), followed by an unbelievably flavorful Peking duck and the beautiful Chinese treasure box...and the delights just kept coming. (Come hungry, you won’t want to miss a single thing.) Every dish was a surprise, artistic, thoughtful, and full of flavor. What truly made the experience unforgettable was Ling herself. Hearing the personal story behind the meal added so much heart and meaning. She is truly one of Austin’s precious gems.

This was a once in a lifetime culinary experience I will never forget! Thank you, Ling and Jimmy.”

I think there needs to be more concepts like this — 12 course omakase that only lasts 45min. (You simply don’t need to be at an omakase for 2-2.5hrs) Excellent dishes for the price point and glad to have still had time on my hands. The scallop, Wagyu, and fish bone soup were the stand out dishes for me. Would do this again and prefer it over a lot of overpriced omakases in town.”

Each pot had about 4 cups of tea in there, so we were able to share and try the different teas we each ordered. My favorite tea was the Coconut Oolong; it tasted like toasted coconut. The sandwhiches were delicious and the scone was delightful and the macaron melted in my mouth. My favorite was the Banoffee Pie: toffee, banana custard and a biscuit layered. It was so filling! Best of all, the owner is personable, talked to us, greeted us, waited on us and just radiates with energy! Every detail is just perfect. Everything was served in/on the cutest English china tableware. It really added to the experience. Can’t wait to go back!”

But here I was, at a food truck, waiting in line, cold from the chilly morning, and getting some of the best customer service I’ve ever experienced. There was no rush. There was just you and your order, and when Andrea made suggestions and recommendations, I was smart enough to take every one.

When I picked up my drink, the gentleman at the counter said, “We appreciate you.” Well, all I can say to Andrea and everyone at Desnudo is, we appreciate YOU ❤️”

Taqueria 10 de 10 206 Trinity St unit 110, Austin Tacos • $

“Weekend getaway in Austin, went here for lunch.

Ambience - located in an alley, can be a little confusing to find. Walk into an alley bar, go through a door, walk through a small seating area, around the corner to the kitchen where you wait in line to order and get your food. Can be fun if you like hustle and bustle. Energetic atmosphere, everybody working fast getting customers their food. No table service, you order, you wait for your food, you try to find a place to sit.

Food - very tasty, we order 3 different ones just to try out the variety between the two of us, along with a side of chips and salsa. The salsa is outstanding…probably the best flavor I’ve had in a long time. Our tacos were steak, chicken, and pork, all on homemade tortillas. Very fresh tasting and tasty, but the meat was chopped fine, tough to hold together while you eat without it falling out the ends.

Enjoyed the lively atmosphere and great quick lunch.

Would I go there again…yes

Would I recommend…yes.”

Every dish was perfectly prepared, full of flavor, and clearly made with care and excellence. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the service was attentive, and the overall experience was simply top-tier. This is the kind of place that reminds you why great food and great hospitality matter. 10 out of 10— We will absolutely be recommending Moonshine Bar & Grill and can’t wait to return! 🍽️✨”

The onion rings were amazing and I don't personally care for onion rings. The jalapeno cheese chorizo was outstanding. As good as all those were the beef ribs were the best most perfect bite of food I've ever had... But what really stood out is the amazing staff from Evan greeting us as we walked in the door to everyone that we met so helpful kind and cheerful!

“My fiance booked this experience for my birthday and it was amazing. The food is off the charts, the service 5 stars, and the staff are the most friendly and knowledgeable people I have met at a restaurant. The head master sushi chef and owner is from Tokyo and is frankly the most amazing sushi chef I’ve experienced, with years of experience. It was a show and a dining experience. The chef even played me happy birthday on a guitar as he wanted to be a blues guitarist! Also the atmosphere is stunning. Gorgeous restaurant. I cannot say enough good things other than GO and BOOK NOW. It is a must if you love sushi! A huge thank you to Yasu-san and the staff for an incredible birthday dinner. We will be back!”

I recently had the pleasure of performing, and I have to say that I was blown away by the level of support that the staff provided. As a DJ, it can be stressful trying to set up and sound check your equipment, but the staff made the whole process a breeze. They were so helpful and accommodating, and they went out of their way to ensure that my performance went smoothly. But it's not just the music guests who receive exceptional treatment. “Considering that I'm a vegetarian and this is (obviously) a very meat-y restaurant, this was a very good experience. Staff were friendly and welcoming, the decor is elegant, the semi-outdoor seating was pleasantly breezy on a hot day (I could do without the huge TVs, but that's me). I simply wanted to get a quick drink with an old friend and we chose Carve purely because of its location. We arrived during their happy hour (which starts at 3:00). We ordered a couple of tasty cocktails and an order of the cheesy cauliflower sticks -- delicious! The happy hour prices certainly made me happy, and the charming waiter checked back in at sensible intervals and remained good humored and attentive even when it must have become obvious that we were not going to be ordering more. I noticed that the menu includes some attractive vegetarian/vegan options and will bear Carve in mind for family celebration meals where there are carnivores as well as vegetarians to feed. My only complaint, if you can call it that, is that they failed to include the tip I thought I'd added to the credit card slip and I realized when I checked my account that I hadn't left a tip at all -- apologies if that was my fault!!”

“We’d hoped to go to Mozarts next door but it was sold out for Christmas Lights. We decided to try Quince since we had spent time getting there and parking. We asked if we could sit near the water and they took us to a table one row away (the rest was booked). Happy Hour was almost over but our waiter Baddi said we had enough time to order. He recommended a margarita/sangria mix which was yummy. We ordered the HH brisket fries and Tuna Wontons. Everything was delicious and Baddi’s service was excellent. At one point the music got really loud, which started to annoy us, till we looked out over the water and a slack rope walker was performing over the water. It was quite a show! He later did the same thing over one of their outdoor decks on the other side. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and were surprised so few of the indoor seats were full. If they opened their door and made it more welcoming, we thought a lot more people would have come over as the outside areas were packed for the lights.”

“We have a family tradition of going out for fine dining for a birthday celebration. I had two birthday celebrations for the month. We used to live in Austin (now in San Antonio) and Truluck's made a huge impression on my wife and I back then. So I decided to do a road trip and treat two of our birthday celebrants to the BEST seafood in Austin. We all went five courses deep and none of them disappointed. The stone crab claws, to the PEI oysters, lobster bisque, little gem Caesar, as well as a variety of fish, and lobster entree's. Which included two of the largest tails I have seen (23 and 27 ounce tails). The grand finale were two customized Baked Alaska's. The food was exceptional, the service was outstanding and the whole dining experience was one for the family memory banks. The whole meal was impressive as it was delicious. We had Brian as our server; who acted more like a symphony maestro or conductor with his support staff. When we come back, I will be asking for Brian. Five Stars!!!”

We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary there last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. I believe the hostess name was Amanda and she saw we were a bit low-spirited and overwhelmed at arrival and made sure everything was handled with care for what was left of our anniversary. From the beautiful table, to picture taking, ambience, and a flaming baked Alaska at the end, we couldn’t be more grateful. Thank you Amanda and Truluck’s for providing an 11th hour extremely special experience.”

OMG I’m glad we went. Got on the waitlist and it went quick. The staff at the greet stand were nice and friendly but when we got to table, it went up a notch!!
STEPHANIE WAS AMAZING!! Now don’t let her occasional “hell yeah” fool you for something bad. It is her affectionate way for letting you know that “something is good and a great option!” She was wonderful and so was the food. I got chicken and waffles and wife got breakfast quesadillas. “My wife and I had an outstanding culinary experience at this Korean restaurant. We ordered the kimchi tofu soup with pork and the seafood and vegetables dolsot bibimbap (stone bowl), and both dishes exceeded our expectations.

The tofu soup arrived piping hot with six different side dishes and a raw egg to crack into the bubbling broth – a delightful touch that added richness to the soup. Every single side dish was expertly prepared and flavorful. The kimchi stood out with its perfect fermentation and balanced spice, while the noodles were silky and savory. As a soup enthusiast, I can confidently say this tofu soup has converted me into a regular – I’m already planning to work my way through their entire tofu soup menu.

The seafood and vegetables was equally impressive. Served in a sizzling hot stone bowl, it continued to cook at the table, creating that coveted crispy, golden rice layer at the bottom – easily the best part of the dish. The seafood was remarkably fresh, featuring tender octopus and shrimp that were perfectly cooked. The colorful array of vegetables added both visual appeal and a variety of textures that made every bite interesting.

The one area where there’s room for improvement is the service. While our server was efficient and professional, the interactions felt somewhat neutral – not unwelcoming, but not particularly warm either. A bit more friendliness would elevate the overall dining experience to match the exceptional quality of the food.

What truly sets this restaurant apart is the exceptional quality-to-price ratio. For dishes of this caliber, with such generous portions and attention to detail, the pricing is more than fair. Despite the service being somewhat reserved, the combination of authentic preparation, fresh ingredients, and outstanding value has made this one of my go-to spots. This restaurant has definitely gained a loyal, regular customer.”
