That being said — tonight might have been the closest to first I’ve ever had. Chance, our server was attentive, knowledgeable, easy going, brought some of the best plates when we asked “bring us what you like/anything you think we missed” literally 12/10 would recommend. Terry Black's Barbecue 1003 Barton Springs Rd, Austin Barbecue • $$

“I swung by Terry Black’s this morning to pick up a big order of barbecue to take to friends in California, because they need to know what the very best barbecue in Texas tastes like. ❤️⁣ ⁣ Chad, Sharon, and Kait were so helpful behind the counter, making sure everything was wrapped perfectly for a travel cooler and ready to survive a flight, complete with reheating instructions for when it arrived.⁣ ⁣ What really stood out, though, was the hospitality. They took the time to visit with me, answered all of my questions, and made the whole experience feel personal instead of rushed. We ended up having some great conversations, and they even let us sample a few things before we decided exactly what to order.⁣ ⁣ The food is phenomenal, but the people are what make you want to come back. Texas barbecue is about more than brisket, it’s about generosity and making people feel welcome, and this team absolutely nailed it. Can’t wait to share a little taste of Texas with my California friends.”

Franklin Barbecue 900 E 11th St, Austin Barbecue • $$

“Just completed a tour of the Central Texas Barbecue Scene. Visited Snow's BBQ-Lexington, Louie Mueller-Taylor, Kreus Market, Smitty's and Black's-Lockhart, The Salt Lick- Driftwood and Franklin's in Austin. It was great seeing the venues and the family history at these historic sites. I visited Franklin's in the past and felt it was the best brisket I had ever eaten in my life. I am a skeptic when it comes to famous barbecue joints. I must say that Franklin's BBQ was far superior to all of the restaurants I visited with no one even a close second. Aaron's attention to detail from the service, choice of briskets, the cook, the wrap, the holding and even the slicing of the final product is evident in every aspect of his trade. I was lucky enough to run into him at the restaurant and he happily talked BBQ with me. Franklin's may not have the long history of muti-generational BBQ in Central Texas, but he has figured it all out at a level that I have yet to see equaled by the best venues in the country. This is a bucket list restaurant for those who really enjoy BBQ. It is well worth the wait in line”

Craft Omakase 4400 N Lamar Blvd Ste 102, Austin Sushi • $$$$

“Exceptional omakase. One of my favorite restaurants in Austin. The chef is extremely personable and kind. Made me feel incredible comfortable throughout the whole experience. My girlfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed this experience. The food itself was absolutely delicious. Every single nigiri was exceptional, with wonderful rice texture. The fish itself was always excellent quality and the sauces lightly coated on each fish were excellently paired with the flavor profile of the fish itself. Drinks: I did the sake pairing which had two options, a standard pairing for $80 iirc, and prestige pairing for $100. I did the pairing for $100. It was outstanding. My friend opted to do the prestige wine pairing ($110); she thoroughly enjoyed that pairing, as well. After the 22 courses, we went back the bar/lounge area and opted to finish our night with a glass of or Born Gold sake. The service team was incredible throughout the meal. Their presence was very low-key, but they were informative and really kind. Will absolutely be returning in the future.”

“This is my new favorite beverage bar on the trail. The attention to detail is insane. Handmade, crafted, natural, and beautiful drinks. Yes, that is a pineapple slushy topped mocktail with a raspberry rosemary twist. The drinks are a large portion too. The smoothy was very filling and just sweet enough so that every fruit shined. This is not your average food truck. Everything this duo does is well thought out and passionate! See y'all soon as this is now a must stop for meeeee!”

Each pot had about 4 cups of tea in there, so we were able to share and try the different teas we each ordered. My favorite tea was the Coconut Oolong; it tasted like toasted coconut. The sandwhiches were delicious and the scone was delightful and the macaron melted in my mouth. My favorite was the Banoffee Pie: toffee, banana custard and a biscuit layered. It was so filling! Best of all, the owner is personable, talked to us, greeted us, waited on us and just radiates with energy! Every detail is just perfect. Everything was served in/on the cutest English china tableware. It really added to the experience. Can’t wait to go back!”

“We’ve been wanting to try this place ever since Thai Kun closed, it was our favorite restaurants in Austin! P Thai’s lives up to the hype. Highly recommend the fried pork belly, fried chicken, fried chicken skins, and whatever the special is for that day. We saw on Instagram that the special tonight was ribeye which was one of the dishes we loved the most at Thai Kun, so we scurried over there and are so glad we did before it sold out! Hoping they will think about doing the Thai Kun red snapper for a special one day, that would really make our whole year :) highly recommend this place! The onion rings were amazing and I don't personally care for onion rings. The jalapeno cheese chorizo was outstanding. As good as all those were the beef ribs were the best most perfect bite of food I've ever had... But what really stood out is the amazing staff from Evan greeting us as we walked in the door to everyone that we met so helpful kind and cheerful! “Great food—especially the tacos and elote, which are my favorites. The only downside was the service. The person at the front seemed annoyed and disengaged, and it showed in the experience. He forgot to include a fork with my order. I left but stopped to check, and I know he watched me. Before I even mentioned anything, I went back and he just handed me a fork without saying a word or acknowledging me. It felt rushed and unwelcoming, like he didn’t want to interact at all. He was annoyed at being there and weirdly passive aggressive about it. I went on Saturday April 11 at 6pm.”

“If you haven't been to a taquieria with a bouncer you haven't lived. This place had some of the most authentic Mexican food I've had in 3 years! Their asada tacos were good but their pastor tacos is where it's at. If I was on death row, those tacos would be my last meal. And their avocado salsa is absolutely phenomenal, if I could bottle and brink it i would. Thank you, we will be back!”

“This place is a solid 3.5 star but the service takes it up to 4. It’s the most reasonably priced omakase and they are quite efficient but shouldn’t come as news that some pieces are amazing but others are just ok. Obviously you’re getting what you pay for. I do like that they do a $30 sake flight it’s such a fair price and add a nice touch. Ended up trying the hand rolls after as I was still hungry and I must say they are so generous with the fish and the portions are just right. The only problem was that it’s only 1 person working and a ton of people ordering so it kind of beats the concept of a hand roll place if you have to wait 15 mins for a roll.”

“We love to eat, and love food. Simply put, our anniversary dinner at Ember was absolutely a Top 3 dining experience in our 26 years of marriage! The only thing that topped it was a one-off dinner at The James Beard House we were lucky enough to be a part of...and that is saying a LOT to just barely be runner-up to that! Not only was the food simply incredible (we had filet skewers, the seafood plate, and the mole pork chop...with roasted carrots and the potatoes as sides, and the flan for dessert) but it was the best service we've ever received. Not just from our server but the entire staff from chefs to managers to bartenders. Not only do you get an incredibly attentive server, the entire restaurant staff seems attentive to your needs. To go deeper on what makes Ember so special, they cook nearly everything in a Mesquite coal Josper oven which is unique to ATX. It gives a distinct smoke to everything, but in no way overpowering. The culinary team at Ember then highlights the Josper with both incredibly complex dishes (pork chop with handmade mole that is as deep, rich, complex, and paired with sweetness via a sweet potato with honey drizzle and brightness of fresh citrus and absolute umami bombs via picked / brined tomatoes) and the most "simple" of dishes (crispy roasted yukon and red bliss potatoes with garlic, shallot, tossed in tallow...simply amazing and must have) everything is constructed and executed perfectly. Whether a special occasion or just a random Wednesday, this is one of the best restaurant experiences anywhere. Huge thanks to the staff at Ember for making our special night super memorable.”

The food is ALWAYS fresh, delicious and consistent. I love this place so much that I hired T-Loc’s to cater a private, professional event in October 2024 and I don’t have enough positive things to say. Miguel and his team are incredibly professional, timely and efficient. This was my first event to plan and execute all on my own and naturally, when last minute obstacles popped up, Miguel stepped in and he quite literally saved the day. Over the years the price started getting higher and I decided to start going to a less expensive place pollo rico. I haven't been to el regio in a couple of years until pollo, rico told me it was gonna be 30 minutes before their chicken was ready. Unwillingly I drove to El regio & boy im glad I did. They must've got a new cook in the kitchen because this meal was the best i've ever had! the rice has a lot of flavor now, the beans are so smoky, that chicken was so moist and not dried out like it used to be.Oh, my god, it is worth the extra cost.I will never go back to pollo rico EVER again!”

“The food is phenomenal. I am very impressed with this restaurant based on my recent experience (doordash delivery).

The eggplant & minced pork noodle is a must try. I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious it was. All the flavors and textures compliment each other to create this wonderful burst of flavor and I've never tasted anything quite like it.

Also ordered pan-fried thumb bun (pork and scallion)... those were devoured quickly.

Beef chow main was good. Not raving about it as much as the other dishes I tried, but it's a solid choice if you want chow mein.

I will 1000% be trying more from their menu in the future.”

“If you're looking for a venue that goes above and beyond in terms of hospitality and service, look no further. The staff here are simply incredible - they are always on hand to help, and nothing is too much trouble for them. I recently had the pleasure of performing, and I have to say that I was blown away by the level of support that the staff provided. As a DJ, it can be stressful trying to set up and sound check your equipment, but the staff made the whole process a breeze. They were so helpful and accommodating, and they went out of their way to ensure that my performance went smoothly. But it's not just the music guests who receive exceptional treatment. The staff are attentive and friendly with everyone, making sure that each and every guest feels welcome and valued. All in all, I can't recommend them highly enough. “We’d hoped to go to Mozarts next door but it was sold out for Christmas Lights. We decided to try Quince since we had spent time getting there and parking. We asked if we could sit near the water and they took us to a table one row away (the rest was booked). Happy Hour was almost over but our waiter Baddi said we had enough time to order. He recommended a margarita/sangria mix which was yummy. We ordered the HH brisket fries and Tuna Wontons. Everything was delicious and Baddi’s service was excellent. At one point the music got really loud, which started to annoy us, till we looked out over the water and a slack rope walker was performing over the water. It was quite a show! He later did the same thing over one of their outdoor decks on the other side. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and were surprised so few of the indoor seats were full. If they opened their door and made it more welcoming, we thought a lot more people would have come over as the outside areas were packed for the lights.”

“Considering that I'm a vegetarian and this is (obviously) a very meat-y restaurant, this was a very good experience. Staff were friendly and welcoming, the decor is elegant, the semi-outdoor seating was pleasantly breezy on a hot day (I could do without the huge TVs, but that's me). I simply wanted to get a quick drink with an old friend and we chose Carve purely because of its location. We arrived during their happy hour (which starts at 3:00). We ordered a couple of tasty cocktails and an order of the cheesy cauliflower sticks -- delicious! The happy hour prices certainly made me happy, and the charming waiter checked back in at sensible intervals and remained good humored and attentive even when it must have become obvious that we were not going to be ordering more. I noticed that the menu includes some attractive vegetarian/vegan options and will bear Carve in mind for family celebration meals where there are carnivores as well as vegetarians to feed. My only complaint, if you can call it that, is that they failed to include the tip I thought I'd added to the credit card slip and I realized when I checked my account that I hadn't left a tip at all -- apologies if that was my fault!!”

“i went here for a birthday brunch and had a great time!

arrived at maybe 10:15AM on a Tuesday, so there was no wait at all. i know this place gets crazy busy on the weekends though! coming on a weekday was great— no line at all, not too loud either.

we had a very sweet server who we chatted up a bit! the food itself came out at a reasonable time. my boyfriend got the steak and eggs, which, while he enjoyed, thought was a bit much in terms of amount on his plate. which may be a positive to some people! he just wasn’t hungry enough for it all. i got the rise and shine sammy which i thought was delicious! i was surprised at how much ham they managed to fit into that sandwich. the potatoes on both of our meals were pleasantly crunchy!

i was able to ask for a birthday dessert for my boyfriend too, with the options being coconut cheesecake and banana pudding. i got him the banana pudding and he really liked it!

overall, i had a great time! the food itself was very tasty and reasonably priced. excellent atmosphere. will definitely be coming back!”

The 3 of us got the $30 steak special which was a GREAT deal. I had a dirty martini that was included and my friends had the Manhattan. Both were excellent. I also ordered a margarita and it was the best one I've had in a long time!

My only note is that I was disappointed in the steak. It was extremely fatty and was definitely not medium rare, it was more raw than that. I'm not joking, I could not cut the steak my friend had to do it for me. 😂 My friends agreed with me on the assessment of the steak, but the fries were delicious.

I would definitely give this place another shot, maybe I just hit it on an off night.”
